12G SHOT AND CHOKE SETTINGS HELP

    Hey guys,
been out shooting a few magpies/ rabbits /pheasants/ and what ever other pest I can find down the bottom of my place,
im using a 3choke with a 4shot shell but seem to be having trouble hitting the birds,
any idea's? and no the birds arnt better at it than me
am I using the right "settings" on my yildiz, or should I move it up to a 4choke with a 6shot shell?
    any ideas or help please
    cheers

Pheasants aren't pest and have a season. Whats a 3 choke?

For Pigeons which is close enough to a magpie I use a skeet choke with 7's. just the cheap ammo you use for clay birds it works well. Same for rabbits

    I understand that Toby,
a 3choke.. well my choke settings on my shotgun go from a 1-5 with 5 being an open choke so 3 is in the middle more concerntrated,
im guessing you mean an open choke by a skeet choke?

Sounds like choke selection is the least of your worries

Yeah something to open the spread out a bit. Main reason I like 7's is I'm a piss poor shot so the more pellets flying the better chance shits dying

I just use 7's for every pest with the shotgun.

Your choke shuld be find but obviously depends on distance ect

Use 4 shot for your ground critters and 6 or 7 shot with the flying type. Your #3 choke sounds like a modified, which is fine for what you are doing. I wouldn't bother changing it.

^^ what he said! I probably go around with the worst setup for a Shottie, 20inch barrel with no choke, but I still manage to down ducks, magpies and turkeys I just have to be super sneaky,

I am using 4, 6 and 7 for magpies, turkeys and bunnies, and I randomly load the Shottie with a mix of each shot adds some fun to it.
20-25 meters hits them for me

You may need to check patterning
Grouchy Smurf had it right all along...

if you mean the Yildiz choke tube has 3 notches in it, it is the half choke. From memory 1 notch is full choke, 5 is cylinder

Give em enough lead and then 1/2 as much again. Most people miss behind. I visualise my required lead in "Farm gates in front"
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.
