Im not interested in fur personally and chastise my dog for recognizing it,fewer problems when competing one hopes.As far as history goes when did the specialist breeds stop hunting fur - no idea

I'm really interested in all this, but I'm in Wellington. It seems there is no one here who is actually interested in trialling or even a club, the nearest being Horowhenua, which are a very good club by all accounts but mostly Spaniels and Labs.

I would have loved to have learned from the more experienced handlers how to really train my GSP, but sadly she's now three years old, and loopy as. I still use her rough shooting, although its not elegant by any stretch of the imagination!

I now have a young lab so I'm hoping to train him up now with the knowledge that I developed trying to train the whining flash of brown and white I call a gun dog!
