Hey, Anyone had any experience with a Aeroo fishing drone? Looking to buy a new drone and these look alright but I would be keen to hear from anyone who's actually used one before I unload the cash, cheers

This guy uses one to great effect.

also plenty of other vids
They have mixed reviews that are overshadowed by Aeroo fanatics posting videos about how great they are (sponsored reviews?). Our coastline was littered with the dead bodies of the original Aeroo drones. Luckily the new version is more resilient.
For the price, they definitely punch above their weight, but they are still a basic drone that is susceptible to the biggest fault with fishing drones - the pilot.
If your budget stretches far enough, Aerokontiki is the go to brand for reliability and customer support, and is NZ based.
Taking the pilot out of the equation, the easiest autonomous fishing drone - Shark X.
All of the others are pretty much lobbed together, with features added to sell drones, but are not actually useful for fishing. i.e. 3kg lifting limit - most 6 hook fishing rigs are less than 500gm, and the published flight time is only for an unladen drone. At 3kg you are lucky to get 5 minutes of flight time. Camera on a fishing drone - Kapiti and Manawatu beaches are shallow sloping sand beaches with nothing to look at other than brownish water most of the time, so a camera is just additional weight you need to fly out and back.
I've had a number of brands come in to be "looked at" after they have nosedived into the ocean, and there are a lot of the same make turning up. Have not had a new Aeroo yet, so that is good.
Depends how much you want to spend, If I had a spare 3.5k I would probably buy another Mavic pro with a bait release for fishing when required, they are bloody good, but my budget is under 2k hence why the Aeroo is appealing to me and yeah from all the stuff I've been looking at today (not much in the way of work done!) I think they fit the bill perfectly![]()
I’ve got a Poseiden and it’s been ok , I like the camera so you can actually see the trace release before you bring it home
Poseidon is a rather ominous name for something that's meant to stay above the water though![]()
Thanks for the comments, I'm not worried about pilot error, I've been using a Mavic pro 2 for years with great success, but it has finally given up after taking heaps of abuse. I like the camera as I can use it for work stuff so will still want that functionand I agree about the weight though I only ever put a 3 hook setup as I've found this to be the most successful for what I want
I have a large fishing drone with a camera, and a DJI Mavic 2.
For video I always use the Mavic - It has a far superior camera, is faster, has better run time, and the Mavic packs down into something the size of a lunchbox, rather than a large suitcase.
I picked up the Mavic second hand for $1k. I fished with it for a couple of years with a tension release, and other than the odd windy day when the line in the air acted as a sail and the drone did not have enough grunt to move forward any longer, it was flawless. I have taken 30minute timelapse video with the Mavic, chased Pukeko out of the paddocks with it, flown it 1km to check traffic congestion before heading out, surveyed our roof. The list goes on.
If video was the primary use, go for the Mavic. Heaven forbid, If I could only have 1 drone for everything, it would be the Mavic.

I know which one I'd rather throw in a pack and go for a walk.
