About LinkBacksTook my old man (visiting from Oz) out for a cast up the Wairau on Friday morning. I've caught a few along the river in the past five years but always released them to fight another day, safe to say though my luck on finding spots you can walk to and reliably catch something has been fickle.
This hen absolutely inhaled the spinner and gill-hooked itself, was bleeding badly turning belly up by the time it was in the net so that's the first trout I've taken home to eat since moving to NZ in 2018. Long time coming and still a good day on the river with the greybeard.
Few more and I might start recovering the costs of my fishing licenses...
