    Film 44: West Coast Surfcasting

That's right, I made a fishing film. Please ignore my terrible casting technique (it works!)

Youre casting is better than mine. Dont wanna be too far out for rig anyway. Caught a 31lb female where you were fishing in the video a couple years ago. Was an imense struggle to land it on my own.

What prawns are you using? I always use crab. Run out yesterday down Haast way. My son caught the only rig of the day on raw shelled prawn I had in the freezer for a treat when no one was home but they wouldnt stay on the hook long until i tied the bastards on.

Last time we fished for rig , my mate had fresh paddle crab , I had the Vietnamese frozen raw prawn . Prawn out fished the crab 7 -1 .

Funny you say that. I was using crab that ya find on the coast in rocky areas. Redish back on them. Always worked well for me when fresh. Not so hot tho after being frozen.

My son was using prawns yesterday and had the only hookups.
Never fished in such perfect conditions on the coast and had such little action.

Tons of porpoises in close probably didn't help tho. Once the tide went out a bit so did they and we started getting some luck.

Gimp has let me know of the prawns he uses so I will get some and give them a try tomorrow.

Just had a feed of panko coated rig for tea. Very nice.

Spiny dogs, school sharks, elephant fish, red cod, apparently the odd snapper but I haven't got one yet. Probably some other stuff but I'm still just new to it all
