    Good Day on the water

Yesterday the weather was looking great so Beeman and my wife and I went for a fish of the Whakatane coastline. It was a cold start with frost on the ground and a very cool wind but a nice day was forecast.
First stop was a long line set down Matata way and after an hour we checked it with only a good Gurnard and Kawhai for our efforts. A quick move and we again set the long line and after an hour again we lifted it with a Kawhai and 5 good snapper, things were on the improve. Line fishing while waiting for the long line was only producing small snapper but Beeman managed another nice Gurnard.
We upped stakes and headed towards White Island to spot X looking for Terakehi and snapper.
After arrival and getting settled on the mark we started pulling in some nice eating fish, mostly snapper but the missus hooked a nice big Blue Cod.
By the time it was time to head back we had 12 snapper, 4 Terakehi, 3 Kawhai, 2 Gurnard, and the Big Blue Cod.
What a great day out on the water.Name: Whakatane entrance.jpg

Cracker catch Mooseman, some good eating there.
I didn't realize you got Blue cod that far north, learn something every day here.

Not a lot in these waters but the one we got was a big one, mostly about 6-8 inches but this one would have been over 12 inches and nice and round.

Thanks Mrs Mooseman, I ate your Blue Cod for dinner tonight. It was closer to 50cm than 12 inches. Yumyum .

Every Xmas my Aunty would tow her boat up to Doubtless Bay from Mosgiel, every year all she would catch up North was blue cod.
