Thread: I need advice for buying a fishing boat

Thanks for the thought Barry but the boat has Yamaha Helm Master EX which incorporates a position hold function in the autopilot. It’s more when my son’s are in diving and we would rather turn the motor off and use the anchor that we have issues, not trying to hold position whilst fishing.

A lot of the places we fish also have too much current for either Helm Master or Minn Kota to continuously hold position, especially with a hard top and a bit of wind in the mix.

Helm Master looks great. I tried to persuade my mate to get it as he does a lot of deep dropping for hapuka etc, but he wanted to stay with Minn Kota. I think the Helm Master would be too noisy for my shallow water softbaiting.

Would love some feed-back from you about this, I have been thinking about upgrading to a 200hp from the 150 I currently have. Mainly was after it for deep drops for puka, bluenose etc.
