    Hi Mikee
GD-1710C. I had been doing cold restarts on your advice but now its just not talking to anything and I don't fancy going out or returning over the bowentown bar without a reliable plotter

Is it a plotter only or does it have a "sounder" module.
You will be hard pressed to replace it with anything as reliable. Vx1 and Vx2 were almost bullet proof.
I dont think you will find anything much in the Furuno range in that price range. Tz10x may be at the top end of it if you dont need an external gps antenna (your boat is not a hardtop). I have not yet seen one in the flesh though.

I have two of these units, one as a sounder only and the other as a plotter only, the sounder is fine just need a new plotter.

Decided to buy a 12 inch garmin plotter/sounder model Gpsmap 1222xsv with a dual frequency transducer and a navionics vision + NZ chart card so that will suit me.
Thanks for your input everyone and Mikee for the pm.
    Appreciated

Have a Garmin ecomap ultra 105sv starting to get the hang of it and using Active Captain on my phone to sync with the ecomap and upload software updates and charts etc. more I learn the better use I can make of all the features. YouTube is your friend lots of tutorials etc. Latest charts show bottom detail I never knew existed. Did a 30k trip at Easter in pitch dark Garmin had all the lights on shore in all the right places and set it to auto adjust to the light levels so it didn’t blind me at the helm. Software updates improved performance too.

Sync to phone has +/- cause every text or email or news update I get shows up on the screen jeez I am trying to get away from that stuff!

Hope u enjoy the new kit.

thanks AMac, I am looking forward to the new unit and features on the chart that probably were not available 10 years ago. Just decided that I will take a photo of all my marks on the old plotter and print them off so that I can load them onto the new plotter manually just in case the shop is unable to transfer the info and looses the lot.
    cheers
