    Salmon for the Aussie

G'day, just needing a little advice on catching a Chinook(quinat) salmon for a keen Aussie fisho. I know its bloody hard to target a new species, let alone in another country, but would it would be viable to spend a week thrashing the water to a foam trying to catch one or hire a guide. Kinda answering my own question there I suppose.I have been on the forum before but after passing through Rakaia a couple of months ago,I thought yeah that is a bucket list fish! Thanks if you can help and I would be happy to pay expenses to a local for their time to help me out and would be willing to reciprocate the offer to get a Kiwi onto a Murray Cod.Thanks

luck of the draw catching a salmon.it all depends on when they decide to run .best bet is try a local salmon club in the area you are keen to go and they should be able to give you an idea of when the salmon should be running consistently then it is just cast and keep casting.i have had a few out of the local harbour but wouldn't want to say I could catch one consistently.local fishing shops would hopefully point you in the right direction also but river mouth fishing would be the best bet.

What time of year are you planning on trying??
After Xmas the Rakaia Gorge area usually has a few floating around, my parents and brother usually do ok there each year although they do have the typical kiwi river transport
I'm the only black sheep with a "fizz" boat

Looking to go in February next year and tie in a chamois hunt.Is that a good time for the salmon or is it too late for their run?
