    Sea fishing around Timaru

    Hey guys, been in Timaru for a while surf casting and stuff but keen to try to do some fishing offshore, anyone know of any good spots off the coast? Cheers in advance

    mid summer there have been kingis not very many miles north of harbour.....
    never tried it myself but if was put on the spot,look at chart,find some structure and go and give it a whirl...the area out from smithfield would be interesting,there is moki in the harbour itself so all sorts of posibilities,if you can get past the spiny dogs and red cod.

    There is a good reef off Oamaru but its very "weather exposed" and a bit of a run home if the weather turns to poo.
    Boat ramp apparently there is also a bit awkward at times.
    My brother has done ok out there before he sold his boat

    Thanks Striker, yeah I grew up down there and much better fishing but living up here now and looking to give it a go and see what might be about!
