    Softies...

Ok so I've given the soft baits a whirl this summer, and the cod tend to chew the buggers to bits which made it a bloody expensive experiment. So on to TM I went and got a handful of $1 reserve and other SB deals.

So here the guts of it if your like me and are thinking about purchasing off TM, then drop me a PM and I can bag you a selection from what I now have name the supplier etc and you can give them a whirl to see if they work for you.

I will have to limit this offer to say about 15 packages. @Pengy also threw in a container of sparkly softies so you will get a few of every thing from worms to jerk shads ( mostly jerk shads).

All I ask in return is you take the time to post a brief summary of what worked and what didn't on here to help others.

So PM me an name & adress and I'll send you a handful of the below.

    Ok report time

1/2 oz 4/0 hook with pumpkin jerk shad. Fished it 20 - 50 ft, cod were small in close, but hooked and had a John Dory at the boat... Don't drop the rod tip as the jig head rolls the hook out. Oh and have a net handy.

They were taking it on the way down and swallowing the whole bait so drop and wind drop and wind a few turns stops this and lip hooked them also lost a few baits as they hung onto the tail and tore it off.

Moved to a new rock fished the edge squid bait and softies eaten with no hesitation , 8 mins 6 large blues our limit for the day, had a cod on the surface at edge of drop off from 30 - 50 ft, another large bluey was attempting to eat the softie hanging out of the hooked fishes mouth right at the surface ..exciting stuff!!

Kawhai schools back up the coast. Cast NC , bright blue with sparkles, bright yellow with sparkles no joy .. good old silver zed spinner 10 gram put two in the smoker.

Tried NC whilst team used pilchards and squid and burley where we had set LL... Nil return for any of us. Try to stay in touch with softie at all times as line drift and in attention causes lots of untangling!

Yes me . Fished two rods in Kaiks . One with fresh cuda other with softies . (Over two weekends) limit on blue cod two terriki on cuda - softies nill . ( did loose a couple of good takes )Two weeks later cut softies in 3s , and it worked as good as the bait . Hoping to try again a week or two . Haven't given up , but results were not impressive . Fished with running sinker , no sinker , and standard two hooks and heavy sinker .

Were you fishing them like a lure or jig or just like a bait?

Fished softies all weekend, they caught cod ,barracouta , kaiwhai ,and gurnard. Use pumpkin and nuclear chicken , I fished along side bait fisherman ( couta and squid)and lures for the kaiwhai.

I caught the same size cod as bait did and we were jigging / soft baiting for Kawhai , I managed enough to keep me entertained. The only thing differnt was I did not catch any spikies on them , luck I'm not sure to be honest!

We had a couple of hard days fishing ..amazing conditions but the fishing was slow/ average. The highlight was a run on the gurnard when we boated 7 in half an hour, only having to leave the hot bite to catch the tide.

There are a few places in Okiwi where if you were to soak a long line filled with Salted mackeral baits you would do real good at this time of year
