That's the DOC camp up near the cape isn't it?
You may want to sit on the hill and watch the current and swell that goes past there.
If you don't have much experience in boats then don't do it, if you did then you wouldn't.
There are plenty of fish in Parengarenga harbour in summer if you want to be that far north. Get a key from the store and stay at Paua.
You will be a shit load safer at Matai bay/Karikari and you can pick the side sheltered from the wind to fish off/dive.

If you are up that way in the next few weeks txt me if you still have my number, I'll be around Tokerau beach off and on.
Still learning the area but it's not hard to catch a feed.

I think you're right Barefoot, Maitai is probably a better option for me and me little dingy. Give me more to play with and there's the rangiputa harbour too as MSL mentioned. I'll give you a bell when im up there (most likely 30th-3rd or thereabouts)

    Cheers

Had a good trip up there, plenty of snapper on board, the biggest coming just under 13 lb. I didn't have any reception at the campground but I trust you had a good time up there?
