Any guys round this area. Get out there. Some superb yf getting caught.
Sunday we went 9 fish from 10 bites with the tenth sharked. Had to stop as they kept engulfing lures and was meaning we couldn't release.

Good size? Been waiting for the anchovy ball to start at the back of whale
A nice YFT landed off Kawhia in the weekend! Yeha! they are on the west coast again!!time to start looking for them!
It was a 47kg model, can't say i know anymore than the boat was off Kawhia, talking to a mate, he commented that the conditions weren't the greatest there in the weekend so his guess is it would of been caught in a 100m of water or less maybe..
Fingers crossed they keep moving south!! certainty will be happy to welcome one aboard![]()
They were feeding on baby gem fish in about 10m. Spewing up loads of it. Actually blocked the bilge pump leadung to a but of a mess.
25kilo range.
Last fish had quite the range in it. Picked it up further away from most of the action as we're we cleaning up and just dragging a lure. Had mirror dory, gems, and a pike of fresh squid in it.
We were out last Sunday too but only had a large albie.
Some good ones off whangaroa and more so of nine pin.
We were in 300 or so.

Mean. What sort of Depth? I'm up at Whangaroa over New Years. I'm so keen to catch one.
imo from a sport and eating perspective yellowfin are the best
Keen to give it a go. Usually up there every 3rd weekend what sort of gear does one need to give it a go.
You wold have got nothing last weekend with stick baits. They're not feeding on top water. Game fishing with stick baits is just lure trolling with a sore arm anyway.
Personally I like livey fishing best. But what ever is working is the go.
Last fish had quite a range in it.

Pretty much. They're a fast fish. Can cope with speed. So long as your lures are working. Certainly want to be running a deep diver of soem sort this year. Bibbed or bibless. Last year was so good for yellow fin and this year it's started 2 months early. Let's hope it continues. Aussies has just had their best yf season on record. All good news. Just hope a few more marlin turn up as last year was extremely hard on that front.
