Tracking has gone a bit odd just now. Showing Fear Youth are back over the other side of the river??

Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
Fear Youth apparently had a navigation oopsie earlier amd were backtracking but the current tracking is very odd
I'm also a little curious about the mot high teams plans at this stage. Looks like they are following the track rather than dropping down the spur that everyone else has taken.

Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
Dud GPS ping. All good now (@ 18:32)
Mot high looking way better now. Phew
If you saw where they ended up in the dark last night you will know what I mean !!
Just a bit more to drop and they are on the track !
Its gunna take a massive effort by them to get to T6 by 1am wednesday & avoid being short coursed but I have got my fingers crossed for them big time !!

Interesting spot they spent the night to get 4 hours sleep![]()

It was a bit of an oops, but to be fair it's really their only one whole race and given their ages it's a stellar performance
I wish there was a choice to change the colour of the tails. Past GZ and other AR's have each team's tail in a different colour. Knowing short tails are 1hr long is quite useful.
Saw Kaikoura U20s and Allan Scott teams launch off the beach out front this morning, looking forward to seeing Rab and Fear Youth go past later today
The approach to CP16 is quite interesting. Out of bound prevernts them paddling around to get it. The vegetation around that area is far more open on nothern faces due to NW winds. I'd do something like this to avoid the race directors down and up. Of course the teams don't see the race directors line.

Does anyone know how long before the race the teams get to see where the checkpoints etc are?

@Shearer I think they got the maps 10:30am. Start was supposed to be 3pm but was delayed until 4pm.
Understanding the route, then marking up maps, then laminating or covering them with clear book covering, takes a while! We were super busy when we did it. Still got my pile maps and look at them occassionally :-)
The anticipated top teams finish time of late tuesday/early wednesday morning looks to be well off at this stage ah !
Fear seam to be heading same way as rab up front. Interesting its a bit different to the course directors route

Oriententeers and navigators will almost always favor ridges and spurs over any form of gully or re-entrant. Only way I'd do the race directors route up would be if vegetation indicated an easy route.
The directors route on SE side to CP16 makes no sense. Why go down then up again? Stay high. There's a saying "elevation unnecessarily gained is speed lost"
