Well since my 3 rifles (semi and lever) are now illegal and my range is closed... here we are. Good for those of you whose ox has not (yet) been gored.

The socialists in the beehive and elswhere would just love us to shut up. I think genuine discussions about political threats to us as participants in our sports is totally needed, warrented and essential. I am not on FB or any other social media and believe politicians, police and the anti hunter/ shooters all take note of our feelings on here. So does the international community. This is good. We should not lie down and be good quiet compliant wee muppety lambys. Our forum is important and should be a good information exchange tool for all things affecting us; from ammo to boots to headlights to game populations and to threats to our interests. As I said; the socialists and extreme greens would just love us to shut up.

That of course depends on the purpose of this forum. There are plenty of legitimate platforms to express your political and anti/government firearm legislation views on. You will still be heard.
This forum was founded on a "no politics" policy. It was defined by it. Now it is defined by something else. That's a shame to me.
After that unfortunate event I tried to keep politics from entering the forum but as you can imagine it was a tidal wave.
It was obvious that members needed a time frame to vent and calm down.
That time is nearly over, so we can return to the “ no politics” rule
So, if you see any blatant politics let myself or other mods know
And we will delete it

It must feel good to have your safe space back, @Gibo.
An itch ... is ... a desire to scratch
@6x47: A serious question: given what 'they' have already done without any ammunition from the firearms community members that are apparently to be deplored, and given that minds are already made up in Beehiveville and Cahill Central about what they intend next - does anyone really think that if we all play nicely in words (words are all that appear on the forum...) 'they' will ease up? Sheesh.
Why not just ban the people the bien-pensants here consider rabid. Start with me. Just do it. That will please Angry Andy and Confiscate'em Cahill just for a start. Although, personally I'd have thought the way to dissociate oneself from things one does not agree with posted on this forum would be to put out there in a reasoned fashion why we 'should' all be criminalized this way because of an Australian import allowed in by NZ Immigration and vetted by NZ Police etc., so forth. And why speech that people disagree with should ipso facto be considered evidence of not being fit and proper. And so forth. Because that's the script the gun collection process is following so far.
I also wonder how many other people there are who, like me, have written carefully polite and reasoned submissions at the time, and since have followed up multiple times in different fora in polite (one-way*) dialogue with Ministers and MPs and other Govt / public servants, yet cannot get any traction or engagement with those people who are now deciding our future as FAL-holders... (*The reason the dialogue is one-way is because out of 21 (so far) such phone and written engagements, only 3 were even acknowledged, with only one of those attracting a (form) letter in return which addressed none of the concerns in my letter.

Used to be a fine wine - now I'm vinegar.
Just crack on as usual I reckon, I just ignore anything that is related to politics.
Life is far too short for negatively and hate talk, what's done is done and it won't be going back, yes a segment of our shooting community got unnecessarily screwed over and while I most certainly feel for these people (and there's possibly more FA restrictions coming) it appears we can't change it, need to accept it and move on and continue enjoying the shooting and hunting that we still have left.....while it lasts.
Don't dwell on the negative, it'll just make you bitter and twisted. Focus on the good stuff.
@keneff, if you're outta here, then take care.
May the deer come to you, rather than the other way round.
I wish you the best spot to shoot from.
