CCI Subs and standard seldom let you down. Win Powerpoints also
CCI or Winchester get my vote too
CCI subsonic for hunting, standard for the range and blazer for supersonic range work. ELLY tenex for the target rifle.
Don't use .22 supersonic for hunting these days, 17hmr does that
remington is the worst, sort of the opposite of the answer you wanted
Got some Aguila 60gr .22lr to try tomorrow. Ugly bastards, let's hope it shoots :)
42grn power point does the bizo for me.
Each rifle, particularly .22 rimfire, has a particular brand of ammo it shoots best with. Try a wide variety of ammo for grouping, rifle functioning and accuracy. Don't seek other people's opinions- only you can discover what's best for your firearm.
CCI subs are also hollow point which helps, sub sonic helps keeping the noise down esp when shooting in paddocks so not to scare everything else too much, and easier on the ears of the shooter. I had more trouble with CCI SV solids punching straight through but the HP stopped the rabbits in their tracks, for me.
If you want bulk 22lr ammo try the Winchester bulk packs, shot heaps better than Remington and Federal bulk ammo in my rifles.
CCI should be best for accuracy, either subs or HV. Target ammo is going to shoot the absolute best, but probably not your best bet for hunting.
22 subsonics generally have a bigger softer projectile with a bigger hollow point than supersonic ammo. Also supersonic is normally copper washed which makes it harder again. Long story short subs are more accurate and kill better than supersonics, you just have to deal with a little more drop at range.
42 grain win hit hard for 22 ammo. I prefer supersonic myself.
Yet three of us used to run yellow kacket through Bruno model 2s and it worked amazingly well. Only rifles I've found that did though.
Try different brands. I've just got one of those Ruger americans and it doesn't seem to like the CCI. So it's off to the shop to get a couple of other packets to try it with.
40g Winchester Subs in the Marlin 925. Accurate and satisfyingly thumpy when they hit:thumbsup:
They seem to be pretty accurate in my other older/cheaper Stirling as well.
The best ammo is the kind that goes bang, with a thud after it.
The world is your oyster grab a couple of 50 round packs of different brands and see how you go.
It's all in the fun of trying
Bought some killwell whispers (subsonic) n high velocity for my new to me .22 semi and they dam near shot to the same point of aim which surprised me a wee bit.

That would make sense Toby. The only ammo I buy for .22 these days is Win PP supers and Kilwell Whisper subs. After years of trying different brands, these two kick arse consistently well and have a similar POI with only minor adjustment in elevation needed for supers out past 25m to 80m. I used to have good success with Cobra too, but haven't seen any of that on shop shelves for years

The Kilwell subs are made for Kilwell by Winchester. They have a Win headstamp but are a different weight projectiles to both the Win subs.
Kilwell shoot stunningly in one of my 22s. However lately they have changed the brew/projectile weight/colour of the box and some say the latest don't shoot as well as the old. I have a large quantity of the old (blue box) fortunately.
I cant believe nobody has said try a few different types and find what your rifle likes the best rather then saying what shoots best in their rifle.
The other thing about hv rounds is that when they are traveling towards the target they slow and if their speed goes under the speed of sound they tend to wobble a little and you lose accuracy but you don't have that problem. Once you know how much hold over is required for certain distances then it becomes easy to shoot out to 100m+. Subsonic hollow points expand really well on impact so do a lot of damage when hunting small game.
I found the highland stuff shot well in my rifles the best I've had so far is some rws hi vel hollow points and win pp 42gr
Does anyone stock highland 22 these days?
Has anybody else heard that there's supposed to be a shortage of 22lr ammo in the near future

22 lr ammo price in your area | Trapper Talk | Trapperman.com Forums Could be right, copy and paste that link. Cheers
Really? I get the impression shops have it now and more of it and maybe a bit cheaper than a year ago?
I guess when Obama hands over to the next President and if its yet another Democrat like HClinton there will be yet another manufactured "panic".
I need to buy a wee bit of CCI std...its great plinking ammo.
Yeah I'm not saying it's going to happen I just heard it and was wondering if anyone else has

I hope not Im getting sick of such hording crap
No
I can't see it happening, it didn't last time other than there being less selection at times. Cci subsonic's became like gold dust for a few months.
If your just hunting and have a brick or two you will weather any ammo storm and for range use you can realistically use whatever you can find and adjust your group size expectations accordingly
I do enjoy a good panic buy.
'Yes love, I DO need 3000 rounds!'
