Yep, the above sample would see me back to load development and training up on the 22. I don't think old mate is interested though. I posted a sample group and stated my cone of fire for x many shots is approx 40mm.

I can see how larger groups and mpoi can significantly reduce error for pretty average rifles though. If you're shooting bug holes then the benefits are somewhat reduced.

@Longrun - how many shots do you fire to determine if your rifle(s) is/are shooting bugholes?

Apart from load development I mostly check zero periodically 3, 5, 7. I know where on the target grid they hit maybe 5 times/annum. So about 10 to 15 times for each load currently.
That's a few shots there with a cone of fire approx 40mm

I've mentioned this already in the thread. I will shoot an 8-10 shot group each time I go though.

Tentman and gimp......do you run top of the line tyres on your day to day runabout vechilles and get it tuned by mechanical expert every six months while doing full oil change???? Might be important if you drive a Ferrari or Porsche...but the Toyota corolla users don't need to,they run whatever tyres they want and often give oil change yearly and never touch anything else, still get from A-B and are happy...... Do you see the parallel????

Yes MD Ive already explained that if you're shooting to 300 or do you're probably going to be "minute of deer" . But how many rabbits can you hit at 200M with your 223 if the zero isnt spot on. And I bet none past 275 ish unless its perfect.

superposing shots on a transparent sheet is an interesting exercise. Good way to keep record when you check zero and also train to keep consistent POI after breaking position or moving from prone to tripod ect

Ooh and usually people saying 3 shot group are useless are the one who struggle shooting good consistent 3 shot group…

If I can shoot sub half MOA three shot group consistently and once superposed 3 or 4 group of 3 form a sub Moa cluster then happy day

Ignoring the nose and ears, about a approx 2” circle at 200. I’ve got one setup at “the place I sight in a rifle every now and again” it gets missed so much more than people think especially in any wind

Honestly???? I'm fooked if I know any more..... We should all waste lots of ammunition to prove our penis size??? I really can't work out why so many of us who are happy with three shots to sight in,are suddenly somehow wrong...I mean four times three equals twelve....and if I have four times, put three shots close together....and if I superimposed those four targets the holes would still be close together... You almost coming across as mechanic who insists on doing extra work on car..before it's needed. So unless you have financial interest in folks using up seven additional rounds...yeah fooked if I know.

Im certainly not saying anybody has to change, but when I learn something that helps me Im happy to pass it on. No skin off my nose if people dont like it or think its useful. Ill remain happy, you can too.

We're doing much the same as gimp et el are describing, just not collecting the "data" at the same time.

Rabbits and hares at 200-250 are in trouble..by 300 they getting tiny for middle aged eyes n 9 X maximum on scopes lol. I shot quite a few over a two year stretch three years ago. My hit rate was better than 60% . The 22-250 makes it easier still as it's heavy and flatter shooting. Funny I talking to another form member just the other day about 22lr... I made comment that I usually only use them inside shotgun range...very welcome past fifty yards, not because they won't hold group, but trajectory stuffs me up lol.

I put 3 in a 1" box at 100yd. Then I zero for my regular distance which happens to be 250yd and put 3 in a 2" box. Done it that way for decades. Don't need anybody's permission to believe my rifle is accurate or that I can shoot. But I also don't live in an ivory tower looking down at the peasants, or believe the emperor has new clothes either.

Anybody relatively new or inexperienced reading this whole thread, walk away now, go find someone in the real world to help you if you are not quite "on".
