    6.5mm SAUM - load update

I had previously posted on here about my load development for my 6.5mm SAUM, using the Hornady 143gr ELD-X. However, by far and away the Berger 140 Hunting VLD has been the most accurate and consistent bullet that I've shot.
I was out at the range yesterday and shot this group. These bullets really like a 0.70 jump to the lands and increasing my powder charge by half a grain really tightened the groups up. Average velocity is 3075 fps

As this was the first time shooting my rifle off a bipod, I found that by putting some downwards pressure from my hand onto the top of the scope mad a big difference.

Clipped it with a gut shot, I'd say that dot will bleed out but may travel some distance first.

    Nice shooting

Got to be happy with that, should be good medicine at that velocity too.

Yeah. I think of it as a short action. 264 Winchester Magnum. I'm running a 24 inch barrel and from what I've read most .264's generate the same performance from a 24 inch tube.

Gunsmithing done by Scott Traill (can't speak highly enough of his quality). Built on a Remington 700 short action, Wyatts extended mag box, PTG fluted bolt with M16 extractor and PTG bottom metal. Sits in a McMillan McWoody Remington 700 Mountain rifle stock. Weighs about 7 lbs ready to go.

Barrel fluted by Gun Works and Cerakoted by the late Victor Alberts of Cerakote NZ.

That's a nice looking set up and shoots very well, should be a good performer at distance.

A less obvious advantage of finding a good load with Berger bullets is that the published BCs are accurate; muzzle velocities can be confirmed from drop data without having to deal with the additional variable.
