, If you contact a dealer and have them sort out a B709 form ( thats is what is used in QLD) and have them organise it with customs it should be straight forward and being a target rifle trigger weight is not a issue. Hope this helps.

I'm in SA it was easy here , get b709a from police and pta, collect rifle from customs after presenting b709a form, take rifle and pta to police, register and that was it. But I imagine WA will be a total cluster fuck though. A custom rifle should still have a serial number, if it hasn't give it one. I just took the rifle out of the country as checked baggage , on the Australian side customs seize the rifle for safety testing; trigger pull ,safety works etc,(target rifles are exempt from having a safety)

The firearm licensing process here in WA is a bit of a circus however the process is slowly improving.

    Briefly:

To apply for a license you must have the following:

    Firearm awareness certificate
Serviceability certificate for each firearm you are seeking to license
Supporting information i.e club references, property letters etc detailing your suitability to procure the intended firearm.

Unlike NZ where you obtain a license which allows you to buy whatever firearm you want and as many as you want. Here in WA you need to make an application for each firearm.

    More information on licensing here:

Firearms licence applications | Western Australia Police

Let’s assume the intended recipient has prior approval for the rifle/caliber that you wish to send over in which case importing the firearm into WA is strait forward.

I suggest you go through a licensed firearms dealer who will take care of the importing documentation, serviceability certificates etc for a small fee. Sending a custom rifle over here is no different to sending a factory one.

I'm heading to the Northern Territory in a few weeks, taking two rifles and 5kg's of ammo with me. I had to apply for a visitors permit and with that they also send the B709. Received both today by email, the Aussie postal system seems to be bloody slow. Problem I have is Aussie customs want to see the originals.

Dealing with the NT Police has been great, they are quite obliging, this is my 3rd trip to the NT and I shoot at the same place with the same people. Even buying ammo in Darwin over the counter is painless.

But I guess the NT is way different than WA.

    Cheers.
