Many people who post on here shoot 1" at 100 yd with Tikka and factory ammo. Those who don't, don't, so you get a biased view. It depends a lot on your eyesight, the scope, shooter experience and specially on sandbag/bipod and other equipment used. "Mixed results" at 500m are normal. However, 1.5 or even 2 MOA can be enough to shoot successfully.
"getting confident at the 500 mark" is not realistic with factory ammo.
This is because you will need to shoot at least 1000 rounds to establish trajectory, learn basic wind and develop shooting technique skill. This is too expensive with factory ammo and it will be difficult for you to get enough of just the same batch and ballistic performance. You'd have to reload, even if you don't get any better grouping. Grouping is only the first start in longer range shooting.
I suggest, with your first 200 rounds, you get confident shooting animals up to 300m for a start and do a bit of field target shooting on steel plus some on paper at a variety of distances (laser ranged) before going further on animals. A first round hit on a 12" target at a random distance around 400m, under hunting conditions, is not easy. You've got a good rifle and caliber, as good as the best available anywhere. Go for it.
