    Factory/Factory 223 Accuracy Challenge

After pissing about with 223's for at least 7-8 factory rifles (over a similar number of years) not to mention a couple of builds there are still a few 223s that have never been on my racks, and due to various reasons, not likely to be. I hear the claims made for them, but see very little evidence.

So I propose a challenge . . . Take your factory barrel 223 to the 100Y/100M range with a box of factory Hornardy 73gn Match ammo. Shoot a 20 round group at one aiming point, over whatever time you care to take and post a photo of the group. Open to anyone with a 223 that has a twist that'll handle 73s. I'm so keen to get this done I'll donate a box of the ammo to the first owner of a Sako 75/85, a Tikka T3 (orX), and a Browning X-bolt to put their hand up.

Rifles just need to have their original factory barrel, it can be shortened, threaded, put in a chassis, have an after-market trigger, super duper scope, be tuned to within an inch of its life etc etc.

The fine print is that a photo of the group with a reference measure and distance it was shot at must be submitted to the adjucator (volunteers welcome to put their hands up for this) who will measure and report group stats to the forum.

I'll give it a go with my Tikka TX3 CTR. My normal load is the Sierra 69 grain BTHP which runs about 1/2 MOA and I have never tried the 73 grain Hornady load.

A ten shot group from a couple of weeks ago. Howa mini, 17" barrel, dpt, bottom metal by @robhughes-games. Very basic vixen scope at 10x. Group shot slowly over sand bags. Will try a 20 shot group next time.

Will have a think about doing this with my Howa but I’ve generally got better things to use $75+ of ammo on.

A factory 55 GRN load might possibly be a better test....include larger pool of rifles.

Well it's a hoot so far, apart from @gundoc the Tikka and Sako bois seem a bit - shall we say "gun-shy".

@Tentman I haven't got any 73gn Match and haven't seen any locally. But I do have a box of fed 64gr I was going to put through my tikka this weekend if you want to see the result.
