I have the ammo to send out to the test rifles all ready to go but hit a "courier" snag. Now going Monday.

From the testing I've now done it looks like the best option for a 55gn test is either of Hornardy 55 gn V-max or Fiocchi 55 gb EPN (which I think is the same projectile. Both have shot very nicely in the range of 223s I have here.

    11 shots, tikka 16 inch 223 73gr eldm
No bipod shot off a water bottle as thats all I had, its Hunters gun i struggled with a 8 times scope.
Weakest part is definitely me, clearly a honest group with that flyer.

This is what I did a couple weeks ago.
    T3x 16", suppressor and bipod.

20 shots of Fed blue box 64gr in groups of 5 with targets overlaid. No cooling time between groups except to remove each paper target.

This afternoon I tried some PMC bronze 55 given to me.

Here is some 75 Amax handloads. Number 10 (second shot) I know I was above the black as I squeezed the trigger.

These are 75Amax from the session a couple weeks back after a clean. Interesting how they tracked vertically down for the first 5 before settling back into the normal grouping.

Finally some Siera 35gr which I mistakenly loaded too hot at almost 3100fps. Although there were no pressure signs at all just the crono.

I take from this... my shooting is average, and so is my hand loading. More practice needed. Also, the first 5 shots seem to always be sub MOA meeting the tikka guarantee.

Fortunately I'm also one of the plebs that has a 1-12 factory rifle, and today I had a bit of time to spare after the rain and before the bloody Nor'wester really got up. Thought i'd give this 10 round thing a bit of a crack to see what I could do. So trundled on down to the range and sent 10 Fiocchi 55gn Polymer tipped boolits downrange, a bit of a breeze coming in left to right, 1/2-3/4 value. And this is what I got

Thats a 10 round group, no prep, no dialing, no offset, just went out and shot it. Havent fired the rifle for maybe a year. 28mm group at 100 metres - thats .289 mil if Im correct, or under 1 moa.

I've found the Fiocchi polymer tips to shoot extremely well too, that's a very tidy group Al . . . .

And this is the rifle - factory Remington 788, 1970's vintage, no bedding, no fancy trigger. Bushnell AR 223 4-18 scope.

Had a box of Speer Gold Dot 64 gn ammo lying around so tried that as well. Seems the 788 dont like 64gn boolits.

I was stoked with it eh! But I didnt really doubt it cos that rifle just seems to like that Fiocchi ammo, and has shot groups like this most time i've tried it beforehand. But never a 10 shot string with no cooling between shots.

The 788s were always renowned as very good shooters, good to see it proved out all these years later!

    Results so far

Looks like this is pretty good ammo across a pretty good range of rifles. Ill have to start a new table for the Fiocchi 55s
