    Gentle Annie Steel Challenge 2016

This November we ran a shoot on a new property off the Gentle Annie - funnily enough it was called the Gentle Annie Steel Challenge. Because we had not run an event on this property before and so the manager could see what we do we kept this event as invite only. We invited a few people we know and who have been to our events before as well as a couple of others.

The event involved a hunter class competition (targets out to 350m) and a long range competition (targets out to 1100m). I have put a few photos below and a couple of videos. Was a bloody good weekend! And was great to catch up with a few people and meet some new faces as well.

This was by far the most targets I have set for any single event. Between then two courses of fire I had 23 separate stages running at once with most of the long range stages involving more than one target. Was a pretty cool sight to be honest.

Station was a great host, we stayed in the shearer's quarters for the price of a box of beer (each) and they put on a lamb on a spit for us after the shoot! Was a great feed and there was not much left!

I do expect to have another shoot on this property at some stage but nothing is in the planning as yet.

Yep, some guys have some pretty serious gear. Very cool to see though and a few people got to try out a few different rifles at the 1500m target while the scores were being sorted!

Gillie, how about a shoot from say 50 yards off hand to say max 600 yards prone? Would be a good challenge for an average hunter with a 7 rem mag, 300 wsm type set up. Timed, like your dannevirke shoot.

@Ginga the closest we have to what you have described is our Tarata Medium Range shoot here in Taranaki (Link: http://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co.n...-2016-a-29832/) - targets from 10m to 600m.

The biathlon takes about 6 or 7 people to make it work plus competitors. Only the biathlon and our Hihitahi challenge require that many people to run.

Thanks Gillie. Hihitahi is in Feb isn't it? Is it timed? Sounds good.

Should mention I went to Gillies shoot in dannevirke earlier this year. 40 targets x 5 points each. Hunters type of shooting out to about 300m. Have done a few 100 yard deerstalkers shoots and they don't get close to this one. Bloody great fun!

Hihitahi is timed but we haven't managed to get the timing done well enough for me to have it included in the overall scoring for the day. If I can get the timing score consistent for all competitors then it will be part of the scoring at Hihitahi.
