I do all my target shooting off a bipod (Versapod).
There are lots of body positions but the fundamentals that will tighten your groups up are as follows (in my opinion, as a good starting point).
Spread you base (legs out to the sides) so you are stable
Relax. If you have tightness or tension in any muscle anywhere, or you are using some muscle to support yourself and its straining, re-position. Keep shuffling round on the ground intill your comfortable. Tension anywhere in your body will open the group up.
If its a Harris bipod or copy check there is even tension in the legs (good luck with that). Load up your bipod. As in put weight on it/lean on it (hard hold).
Natural point of aim. Natural point of aim is where your completely relaxed and comfortable, as above, and the cross hairs rest on the right place on the target. To test this, close your eyes, relax and open them again, if your cross hairs are still on target, you have it right. NEVER just lean one way or the other and muscle the cross hairs on the target. Move your whole body so your in a new, comfortable position and achieve proper natural point of aim. You will get lazy, you will muscle the cross hairs over, and you will throw the shot.
The rest is breathing and trigger control. Keep both gentle, supple and smooth and you are on the right track.
Could be your 308 only shoots 30mm groups.
Well said - do everything listed
Tight groups are relative. I saw some grouping at Riverhead on the weekend that would make some people weep, but the shooter had a grin from ear to ear.
