I have found myself less drawn to taking long shots on animals when out hunting in recent times. I get more satisfaction from a good kill at a range suitable for the conditions of the moment. It’s definitely something I still do and prepare for but primarily for those situations where I have no other choice and the animal on the other end is something I really don’t want to let slip away. An example being the 8 point Sika stag I shot in March at 645m with no other options to get closer. I just got away with it and it’s a reminder that you are on the edge of a stuff up when pushing to those ranges when hunting no matter how prepared you are.
Anyways, I enjoy long range stuff but like making it relevant with a back country rifle that would realistically be used in a back country hunting situation. I stumbled over this vid on youtube and found it refreshing to see some honest results in a cool little challenge from guys who backed themselves.
