My 8 year old daughter loves coming to the range and wants to start IPSC competition this year, just have to get some of the other club members to take her through the holster course and sign her up for an FM1.

Nice one! I have been taking my guys out on occasion. Just turned 9 and 11. The 11 year old has been shooting 9mm and the 9yo a .22.

While they are safe with firearms we are only now going over the arms code so that the older one can get his junior proficiency badge. Only worry there is that he has a kind of dyslexia so I worry abut the test. If it was a verbal test no problem but some of the questions are almost like traps to a young person.

I just got a rig for him as well and he is using a grand power x-caliibur. I would be keen to hear what you find out about the holster course. The way I read it you have to have the junior proficiency badge first and they only do that one you hit 12. This left me thinking he would be a tyro until then. Seems silly that he can shoot while younger but can't do some of the safety stuff until he is older.

He likes IPSC and we have done a little bit by ourselves but the real impediment seems to be the lack of other young shooters. It is a long and boring day for a young one to stand around with a bunch of adults and no other people their age.

Until there are a few more people his age I don't see him wanting to do it as so much of the time is social chatting, he is left in the dark there.
