Gisborne is my home town and I enjoy going back for a visit occasionally.
No public range, I guess all the locals know someone who owns farmland or forestry block to sight-in?

Back in the day, folks used to use the sand dunes on the road out to Waipaoa river mouth but I dunno if you can do it now.

There is a range, the Gisborne full bore rifle club. They shoot on the weekends I can give you a local persons number. A lot of their members shoot scoped rifles and many different calibers. Goes out to 1000 yards. They have an informal 100 yd sighting range as well.

I dont really know what folk mean when they say public range. Public to me means any one can walk / ride /drive play golf etc on a piece of public land ( and whats public land?) so that to me infers you probably cant take a rifle and go shoot targets on it.

I will send you a PM with a contact number if you would like it.
    Let me know
