    NZDA requires FAL number

Just received an email from NZDA National Office saying it's time to update our details and this must include our firearms license number.....

Maybe I have been doing to much hunting and missed the memo.....

    Keen to understand everyone's thoughts.....

I have sent an email asking where they will store this info and how safe it is, and also how long do I have to do this and what happens if I don't comply.....

Cheers on ya thoughts, especially from NZDA members

I am no longer a member of NZDA but the pistol club that I attend sub leases the NZDA range for our club shoots. Every time we attend, every member provides their FAL (which is checked by the club secretary) for the attendance record. So, nothing unusual as far as I am concerned.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Why would you need a FAL to be a member of an association? Kinda limits the size of the net for a group that needs everyone it can get.
I think everyone should be an NZDA member if just only to be a voice for what we enjoy.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Received same email asking to update membership details and fal number. Link sends you to secure portal. Don’t have a problem with the request. Clay target clubs and pistol clubs been requiring this for a while now.

All shooting clubs are required by the new range laws to have a record of all of their members FAL #'s among a few other things

NZDA is more than just range shooting isn't it??? or at least it should be. I always assumed it was more about hunting big game.
What do bow hunters do? Not welcome at the NZDA?

So if we don't use a NZDA range why do we need to provide our FAL number, if the club you belong to doesn't have a range why do we need to supply FAL number......how secure is the number with NZDA......police currently have my details and I don't understand why I need to give to the NZDA......and if I choose not to do I end up not having my membership renewed??....and is that really a bad thing?

Of course bow hunters are welcome

The licence thing has nothing to do with the NZDA it is now the LAW that all shooting clubs have to registered as such if they use a range, part of this is the requirement that all members who have a FAL have their number recorded by the Club

Anyone can join the NZFA, you don't have to have a licence or even be a hunter, lots of people shoot targets, take photos etc

As far as I'm concerned the main reason to be a member of the NZDA is for advocacy, its the reason I joined twenty+ years ago with the hope my future grandkids would be able to still go hunting if they wanted to

There are many other benefits, insurance, discounts, etc

No, they will still take your money.

I thought they only needed your FAL if you attended an NZDA range, not a requirement for membership of the club.
