Good and bad days on the shotty with ducks in front of me. Pretty consistent with a rifle though.

I love shooting both. The accuracy of a rifle at range and the brute force of a shotgun appeal to me. Add a pistol into the mix and I am as happy as a pig in a paddock full of new born lambs.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Don't own a shottie, have used them a few times on clays and ducks and can hit 40-50% of shots.
My brother on the other hand, doesn't matter what shotgun he picks up seems to hit 80-90% of clays and he hardly ever shoots.
I'll stick with the rifles for me, small one for rabbits/possums, medium one for wallabies/fallow and big one for deer/tahr.

one of these days I shall have to try n convert you mate......when you drop a running hare going full tit across in front of you...the whole world looks rosey.
very versitile weapon the old shotgun, have shot ducks pheasant, rabbit hare and wallaby in a single outing with u/o russian mistress
have shot pigs and even a deer with them too.
I consider myself competant with either rifle of shotgun ,but you only get good and stay good with any gun by constant use.
I would back myself under 50 yards with a shotgun against pretty much anything that walks this great green country of ours.

plucking heads off rabbits with full choke and careful aim under 10 yards being the exception to that rule,we used to do it at least twice most nights spotlighting.

I have shot shotgun, rifle, and pistol since I was a kid. All require different techniques but I have shot international competition with all three successfully. I think rifle shooters learning to use a shotgun have some difficulty for a while, but not as much as shotgun shooters learning to use a pistol! Nothing is harder to overcome than bad habits that are fine for one discipline but not for any other.

one bad habit I have sometimes when using a shotgun is for some reason I pull down on it as I fire, dont know where that comes from

That is flinching from anticipating the recoil. You momentarily tense up and your forward arm pulls down. The recoil is much less noticeable with a good shooting stance that lets you 'roll with the punch'. Get an experienced shotgun shooter to give you a few pointers.

I started out with air rifles aswell. Not much of a shotgun shooter, though im sure more practice makes perfect.
Im more of a rim fire/center fire now as well as getting back in to air rifles now.
