    rossi single shot 223

so i bought this off another member ..... put a scope on it and took it to the range on thursday morning and put a few rounds thru it
previous owner mentioned best he could do was 3" groups with the red dot.
so was being realistic in my expectations.

reasonably happy with it , 3rd shot seems to be a flyer has been suggested to me that being a cheap single shot and the way the forend is mounted to the barrel may be the issue when it warms up or maybe when it warms up it reacts different to the pressures in the "breech" (something that wouldnt be an issue in a half decent bolt action ........ i did say to a mate if i need a third shot then maybe i should give up hunting...... so my thoughts are only do 2 shot groups and maybe try a different flavour ammo in it till i start reloading for it........any other words of wisdom?

should add the the high and low outliers were done setting the elevation and i adjusted to the right after the first group. still wants to come up an inch but i need to get a new rail for it as i had to put a shim under the back to get enough adjustment out of the scope

I think your results are okay, given it's the first ammo you tested.

Some of those Rossi's are very sensitive to the tension of the fore-end screw, experimenting with this might improve groups. Or not.

Definitely try a few different ammo types. PMC Bronze and other cheap brands like PPU, Barnaul, Hunting&Fishing, Frontier etc may not give the best accuracy.

Try holding the metal of the action instead of the forestock next time at the range, works for some singles. Also Ron has one in .308 so will know what works.

    Hi Scotty
Good luck in your progress to get the Rossi 223 to shoot consistent
im asking if all the usual questions have been delt with like how well it locks up [any slop when this is done ]
scope and rail all set tight , crown true and is there a suppressor included -is this true etc
Ammo also plays a big part [some barrels just like different ammo ] -what twist is your barrel
    Cheers

Hi Scotty... what distance was the target shot at? What twist is the Rossi - 1:12?

Sounds like you're not reloading? Some handloads in different weight bullets and with different powders may make a diff. Bound to be a reloading member close to you. I'd be happy to do some but don't go thru the Waikato that often
I know a lot but it seems less every day...

Hey, will try and answer all in one hit..... It is suppressed,no it's not sloppy , 100m range, will start reloading when I get some dies and small rifle primers, scope and base is secure but I had to shim the base to get Enuff adjustment in elevation so will be getting a better base. @tetawa yes please I will pm my # as I can't remember if I already gave you it oh and 1-12 twist, crowlooks ok . Think that everything

    Hey Mate
i never seen a MOA rail for a Rossi ,, but a good guy on the tools could mod yours
or you could get those moa rings that let you do the same job
what scope are you running and what distance where you working on for those long shots .
    cheers

The base on it gets thinner toward the rear I turned it round and had the same problem but in opposite direction so I put a 1 mm shim under it just so I could test fire it so I will replace it . Weaver 92A so will just get the local guy to get one in. The scope is an older Japanese Bushnell trophy which I can dial out to 600 (not that I will ever be doing that , I see 200-250 as the end goal max

Looks ok to me.I just use mine for a100m rifle.
I bedded the front couple of inches of mine and around the barrel screw.
    Taken plenty of scalps.
