Thread: Rotorua Long Range Field Shoot 2014

The Rotorua Long Range Field Shoot (Woodstock 1000) is a field target shooting competition held on a farm just outside of Rotorua. This event is an individual shooting competition involving targets placed at distances between 100m and 1000m. Most targets will be between 450m and 700m.

The event requires the competitors to move from stage to stage along a set course, shooting at different targets at each stage. Every stage is uniquely set up to provide a variety of challenges over the course.

The competition will be held on Sunday the 25th of May 2014. There will be no weather cancellation. There is a $30 entry fee.

• In general any rifle of any caliber between .243 and .338 will be allowed. If you are shooting a calibre with a projectile weight more than 300grs or a muzzle velocity more than 3200fps then best you talk with me before you turn up as your calibre may not be allowed depending on how I set the closer targets.
• Competitors will need 60 rounds of ammunition each (best bring a few extra though).
• There will be no sighting in shots allowed on the day. All shots are scored and all stages will be timed.
• All competitors will be required to score, time and supervise for one other shooter at each stage. All competitors will be required to bring optics suitable for scoring and a time keeping device.
• Spectators are fine (best to let me know beforehand) but may not assist any competitor throughout the day i.e. no shooter / spotter teams.

To be clear this is not an event for someone just wanting to try shooting at longer distances or someone who hasn’t already got their stuff sorted. If you want to come along though, get in touch and I may have an open spot available (there are limited entry spots available).

We threw more than a few challenges at competitors this year - loophole stage, a couple of kneeling and sitting shots, the infamous camo net stage, a "know your limits" stage, etc... and all the competitors had to finish the shoot by firing a 5 shot group on their own paper target (245m).

The infamous camo net stage bloody net got caught up on everything - the barrel your scope the bolt, bipods, your hat, fingers - And that was just trying to get under it! The first target was through a pine tree and once you got that one there was still two more targets to go! A competitor mentioned that no-one liked the camo net stage... but they are unlikely to forget it either! I am amazed the net was still there at the end of the day

I will be at this next year for sure ill mark it on the calendar now.l will make sure that bloody camo net dosnt survive next years biathalon shoot

You'll take a lot away from it - it may not be as many points as you'd be hoping for, but you'll definitely see many ways to speed your cycle up.
For me, you can have all the fancy apps on your android phones but in the field - pretty much useless. There's basically no time to piss about with the things. Lots of my gear will be staying in the car from now on HAHA.

So much to do in the next 12 months

This competition focuses on quick, efficient work flow resulting in multiple, accurate shots at random distances under time limits and field conditions. Stages often employed challenges to add stress as another factor in accurate shooting. It was not easy and the results reflect this - best result on the day was 31 hits from 60.

Without the time limits and other challenges the majority of the targets would have been much, much easier to hit.

did the loop hole grow as each shooter shot?probably a foot open by the Finnish lol

Loophole was 2" wide by 6" tall.

Looks bad, i know. Post match investigation I found out someone had shifted one of the shoot position markers making it impossible to clear the barrel through the slot without a really tall bipod I was a little peeved when i noticed it. That screwed several competitors after them, whoever it was.

I was like Derrek Zoolander by the end of it (looking into a pond saying "who am I??" lol

Is that the one on the Tikka Sporter? If so, i believe it is an Ase Ultra jet-Z COMPACT.

Nope, sorry Gibo, not sure what suppressor was used on that steyr.
