    sighting in 223

For the first time, I've will need to sight in a centre fire in 223.
What is the best way to do this? Do I do it at a shirt range to start with?
I plan to use 52gr hp to a max of 150m

Prop rifle aimed at target.100y plus

Look down barrel and align with target. Without moving rifle look threw scope and adjust cross hairs onto target.

    Fire a shot at a close target.25-50y
Measure from hole to aim point.
1 inch at 25y is 4 moa or 12 clicks on most scopes.
    Adjust to center.
Fire one shot. Should now be center if not repeat above.

Move to 100 fire 3-5 shots, measure from center of group to center of target.
4 clicks or 1moa is now an inch adjustment.
    Adjust.
Fire another 3 to check its perfect.

    Go shoot stuff.

Before you hit the range, get the scope bore sighted. Your gunshop or gunsmith can do this.

You need targets. I use open home signs. They take two a4 sheets of paper, which I tape on using masking tape coz it comes off easy.

Printable A4 size targets available at
    http://www.targetz.com/

    This is my favourite :
    http://www.targetz.com/targetzlib/10148.pdf

Start at 25yds and fire 3 shot groups. Adjust your scope, then re fire a 3 shot group. And repeat until its hitting the bull.

The shots should group quite closely if you're shooting well and you have decent ammo. Take it nice and slow, dont rush the shots off. Also good to let the barrel cool a bit between groups, and possibly even run a pull thru thru the barrel.

You must use quality ammo for this : you don't want to be chasing bad ammo . I use hornady 55gr.

You might also want to get a bipod and sandbag. It removes inaccuracy due to wobbly shooting.

Once you've zeroed for 25yds, move out to 50, and then 75, and finally 100. Don't be afraid to stop at 50 and come back another day.

Remember , this is probably as much about you learning to shoot your new rifle as it is about zeroing.

PM me if you have questions.

    Thought it was 4 (100/25) x 4 (clicks/1") = 16 1/4MOA clicks?
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!
