Does anyone know what the go is with this place. Price etc and how to gain access????
I am a member of BOP NZDA so do i just rock on up or what's the deal.
Might be my second choice for sighting in the rifle today.
As always, cheers in advance.

Thanks for the replies Mauser and Bryan. Seems a little pricey for getting access to a range. Granted a heft of money has been thrown at it however $45.00 for range inductions then the range key and the range ticket and ongoing yearly subs! Also why the need for 3? Surely a RO would be able to see you either are safe and follow standing orders or you don't. can't see why you would need 3 times other than to gather revenue.
Will keep it in the back of my mind but for the little extra distance will stick with Rotorua.
Waikato and by that i mean Hamilton, could really do with a range.
Willie, if I had the chance at a dedicated range anytime, such as TECT, I would jump at the opportunity, shit 3 inductions and a little bit of money is cheap! And having said that I presently have access to several properties to sight in my rifles, one all set up with a bench. And I can fully understand the 3 inductions, they just have to be sure they want you on their range. Sounds like it an excellent asset to the community, with a very reasonable protocol to ensure our shooting sport stays safe, big ups to those responsible.
Actually, the price is dirt cheap. If it was a commercial venture you would be paying more than 10 times that - like golf club fees or squash clubs feez etc. Or, buy your own bit of land for several hundred grand, go through resource consent process for thousands more, and then pay annual, rates of $4000 - $5000 PER YEAR , maybe more??
Makes $100 - $160 per year for subs and 300m range access look pretty cheap aye !
Safety issues are a major concern with any rifle range. Alot of the shooters that turn up NEED more than one vist before they really get the gist of what the protocols are. Some of the shit we see on the public range days when on R/O duty can be pretty scary. And yes, sometimes it is 'experienced' firearm license holders at fault too, not just the newbies. That is why there are strict rules that must be followed, otherwise 1 incident could shut the whole place down, especially seeing it is council leased land, not privately owned.
Yes, you could say i have had a 'little bit' to do with setting this facility up, so am intimately aware of the issues faced. Cheers.
Seems very cheep and very fair conditions to me
I could see it if i was reloading and throwing all sorts of lead down it, for me i just don't shoot enough to warrant it.
Also then must be pretty spoiled with Rotorua range, much cheapness there!

That scares me! 3 times to get it right, oh dear oh dear! Makes me wonder how they got their license, lets be honest it aint bloody rocket science
Try Taupo no bullshit, arrive invest $2:00 in the honesty box, introduce yourself to any fellow shooters, wait your turn to go forward, agree with the other guys, I visually check their weapons, for my own peace of mind, all go forward the back and check with others before recommending shooting, met some real good guys down there already, it ain't rocket science, as you say
Of course if @Woody is there I wait till he goes home! That guy can shoot!
Agree with you Willie. I was a member, and helped on a couple of weekends shovelling dirt and cutting up empty barrels, and for the number of times I would use the place, it seemed expensive. I thought that as a member of NZDA, we should have been able to have more options available to us - say a smaller fee for a set number of days per year. The current setup is awesome for those who are into it big time, but us casual hunters - not so much!
Lentil you should get in touch with Rotorua NZDA and go for a range key from there. Much more cost effective and pretty damn good bunch out there. Also not far from Papamoa. If you need access and i am heading that way will give you a shout and come on out if you haven't already set it up
TSo do the funds received go to the NZDA, the Council or do you just cover costs? Just asking, not really any bone to pick, I'm in Taupo all the time and enjoy shooting there, the safety down there seems to be OK, mainly because you have to talk to each other to use the range.
Yep. Open communication with other shooters / range users is what works. A visit to the Taupo NZDA range often as not results in a social occasion and yarn session, shooters helping each other out with advice, tips or just general discussion. Often a local branch members will turn up to just have a looksee or empty the rubbish bins etc. Most persons are polite and listen and comply with any behaviour hints given by local users /members.
There is even tolerance of guys like Maca49 and their vintage guns. :) I have seen people happily accommodated with everything from bows and arrows, black powder muskets , hunting rimfires. centrefires, AR types and casual police / Army practices and sharing the facility well.
Our biggest problem are the few dirty bastards who shoot cans and fruit and leave their mess out on the range instead of picking it up, along with old target papers and placing it in the bins provided. One other bunch of f-wits used some tracers last year and started a bloody fire which required a fire brigade callout. Any users seeing wankers like these abusers please report them and their rego's to NZDA committee or police.
We're more or less "civilised in Taupo :)
Well said @Woody have so far had excellent times at that range, everyone is safety conscious and everybody talks to each other. Good chance to lol at or shoot some else's fire arm and plenty of talk about hunting etc. the way the world should be. We gotta stop talking it up Woody! Every bastard will start using it!
It must be horses for courses i guess. I've never had an issue with getting on to Rotorua, the guys that were there on Saturday from CNIGC were bloody good buggers and let me sight in even though they had booked it and it was advertised. Even said if i had .223 i could have had a shot! Also much cheapness and so the Scotsman is happy:thumbsup:
The range fees at tect would be reasonable if it wasn't so far away from tauranga !!
You might have to set up your own range if you get involved with those 'good buggers'. Those guys got their old club kicked off of the awakeri range for abusing the facility and pissing off the neighbours and the landowner. Then tried to overthrow the club exectutive and failed. Ha ha ha. Shit stirrers were booted out of the club and a few others followed them to form CNIGC. Rotorua must have got sucked in as no one else is keen for them to shoot on their ranges after the bullshit hassles they caused for BOP service rifle club.
Actually, reading through your posts almost looks like you are just having a whinge against the NZDA TECT range. The info you originally asked about would be available on the clubs website, or from the clubs committee, so why post general info questions about it on here, and then start slagging it it off?? Go and set up your own club or range then if that is the sort of crap you are into. Whinging-Willies-Wifle-Wange could be an appropriate name...... Fkn lol..... :D
It's funny how the two sides of that story differ so much
Wow Kaimai, seems like you have a chip on your shoulder.
Yes there have been a lot of rumors spread around by the remains of BOPSRA to try and discredit us - its seems like you're one of them helping to do that.
And while this thread is about the TECT park and I don't wish to derail it, I also would like to defend our club.
1. BOPSRA was kicked of Awakeri range, after the president had a heated argument with the lease holder of the land over dust caused by him driving to fast on the dirt track. That is a fact and we have a letter from the lease holder to prove it. Nothing was "abused".
2. While a large proportion of the club disagreed with the path taken by the current president it was considered that we could look to replace him via the democratic process.
This was decided against due to the drama existing in the club and we wished to pursue our sports (service rifle, pistol shooting and BBQing/meat eating) without it.
3. We weren't booted out of the club, a lot of our members held committee positions(funnily some are still members). We had chosen to leave long before the voting took place and had received out membership refunds long before that.
4. We have several ranges we have access to including Rotorua and Tauranga Pistol club. Funny how the people who would run the BOPSRA shoots before we left obviously cause "bullshit hassles".
I always thought the 2 clubs would get along but after having member of BOPSRA straight up spreading lies to Arms officers, BOPDSA among others just shows the exact reason why we left.
Its over, we are gone, stop acting like a psycho ex-girlfriend try to get our firearms licenses taken off us. We are a happier without you and i'm back enjoying shooting again.
Fletch, CNIGC Treasurer
Hi Kaimai Views!
my Name is Warren Fitzsimmons, I am the President of CNIGC.
Fletch pretty much nailed the reply that I was going to give, but i would like to add a few points.
1. I was a member at Awakeri Shooting Federation, one of the main reasons BOPSRA was asked to leave was noise... 20-30 guys shooting semi autos all day does make a racket, and the farm that ASF is on is actually being split up and sold. the Pistol club is actually closing also. nothing to do with any "members" or stuff that was alleged to have happened. Bopsra was asked to leave months and months prior to its members being told... I know because I was on the committee and Syd told me...
2. we were not kicked out... we made a conscious decision to leave and start a club that wanted to grow Service Rifle shooting... elements among the older members at BOPSRA wanted to keep it a closed "old boys club"... we intend to grow SR shooting... at the end of the day BOPSRA has a stack of cash in their bank account... and to some of the older members it was all about the money, and not wanting to lose control of it... we left... we choose to make our own club with democratic values... BOPSRA is anything but. we have more X BOPSRA committee members at CNIGC than members that shoot at BOPSRA now!!!
3. Everyone reading this now is welcome to come and shoot with us anytime... we want to grow SR shooting... believe what you actually see... not lies and rumors spread by some rejected grumpy old men... Please email me me for times and dates of when we are shooting.
Kind Regards
Warren Fitzsimmons
President CNIGC
Wow Kaimai views!
It sure looks like you believe the lies you have been fed.
Thanks for posting that rubbish up on a public forum. It really helps both clubs.
Both clubs are full of good blokes who want to enjoy their sport. Your shit stirring on here does nothing to help our sport of service rifle shooting.
How about next time you want to regurgitate a load of crap online, you sleep on it first?
If you would like to join us for a fun day of shooting at the range, you could then post an informed opinion. All shooters who are looking for a good fun day out are welcome.
Regards,
Mike Jamieson
GNIGC VP
Beep, beep, beep back the truck up, that's not how any of it happened. I'm a member of Awakeri, BOPSRA and CNIGC and nothing that you said is true. We're you at any of the meetings over the happenings at Awakeri? Is what you've said factual or just hearsay? Mate to slay people's reputations on a open forum isn't right. How dose that saying go? Assumption is the mother of all F%#KUP'S.
Hey mods sort this shit out!
Hey Kaimai Views i don't know what the fuck you are on about but that's just an arsehole reply to anything. I stated my views about the cost and that was MY view, in a public forum that's allowed! I never had a crack at anyone so i suggest you pull your head in, arse!
[QUOTE=Kaimai Views;332772]You might have to set up your own range if you get involved with those 'good buggers'. No the info is not on the TECT page! Checked the site, called the number and read the info. Couldn't get a straight answer from the phone number so tried here. I asked about the place, i got an answer, and based on that decided it wasn't for me and gave my reasons. No one slagged it off. You for one seem to be trying to claim the arsehole of the day, i just think you managed that, well done.
This is also the reason that perfectly good forums lose people simply because of your shit replies. Kinda ruins this place having to read through that crap and feel like i have to justify myself.
Willie there is an public day at TECT park this Sunday. $15. Good range and good people that run it. Yes the rules are a bit intense but that's council land for ya. check it out and you can go from there.
Cheers Munks, it worked out fine to get the rifle sighted in at Rotorua. I was simply looking or options that day. I don't have an issue with TECT it simply wasn't the best option for me that day and as i still have legit access to Rotorua i would use that. I only needed to sight in after having work done on the rifle.
Cheers for that.
@Willie and a heads up to anyone else interested in the range at TECT Park:
while the range is situated in TECT Park, the range is leased and run by the NZDA BOP branch. All information is available on the BOP NZDA website including 2015 Range calendar, range standing orders and a bunch of other good info (monthly newsletter, notices, etc). Easy to find site via Google.
Hi Willie,
I was there when you can to site in your rifle. As you can see we have been the victims of a smear campaign. Actually it was a well run campaign and they really threw everything they could... Lucky the truth is prevailing and people like yourself can talk from experience! As I mentioned before that all shooters are welcome to come and have a day with us.. We are having a Vietnam themed day on the 14th of Feb. so far we have 20+ shooters coming and many more from Auckland Service rifle association. There will be A cat guns to borrow on the day... Just bring your own ammo. And as we are renound for earing as well as shooting... There is a huge BBQ on also!!!
I might be pushing the limits with the lovely her indoors but might try and sort that out, 14th is our engagement anniversary but she forgot our wedding anniversary so i reacon i have one in the barrel. .223 if i remember rightly.
I will always make my own opinion of people and what they represent and being Scottish i tend to back the guy getting shafted especially if he has tried to help me. What i saw at the range that day was honest people, safe people, and people having fun. No fuck ups and nice people allowing me to do my thing while they bbq'd. All of them spoke to me and were decent blokes.
What ever your thoughts of a group make your own mind up and don't let idiots ruin it for you.
I take it the venison is still welcomed, will see you there.
If you don't like venison i am fucked cause that's all that is in the freezer!
People, be happy, you guys are kind of "fighting" because what shooting range will suit you better, if you live where you don't have where to shoot than you would "fight/complain" about where I can go.
I live the hard life, 2 ranges and the closest is 2 hours from my place.
Have a great weekend, get out and shoot, shoot some for me too.
God bless!
Mac
