    PC for Pest Control

    Gudday,

I've a big bush block on my door step. The forest areas are pretty much ravaged by herds of wild goats 30 large, an exploding pig population, possums, rabbits, stoats, rats, feral cats etc.
I shoot possums most nights and the bird population has perked up a bit.
Now the plan is to shoot the odd goat and pig and keep them driven back so the bush gets a chance to regenerate.
My main motivation is pest control but I've found the hunting aspect enjoyable and good exercise.
I look forward to learning tonnes from other folk (such as how to get my Rosse 22 semi auto to cycle rounds properly!)

    cheers
    Nick

while not havin a rossi 22 semi ( i have the 22 mag version) it performs perfectly.
what ammo are you using ?
i would suggest 223 upwards for goats and something larger for piggies!

Good on ya Nick for the pest control, this is essential work for the good of the country. Remember that if anyone has a bad word to say about you for shooting.

    I see an immediate problem with your concept though. You said;

no mate, you need to shoot HEAPS of goats and pigs and clear out the area altogether! Even one of two animals will stop the bush regeneration, they will eat everything they like first and change the forest composition if any are left. Think of it as a challenge, every feral animal must be culled!

Btw I got a rossi 22LR semi for my younger son, the thing has never yet failed in any way. Using plain old CCI supers. If yours is not cycling ther eis something wrong.

It's fairly newly, perhaps just 300 rounds through so far. It was a cycling a little bit last night so maybe needed to be broken in.
I'll give it a clean and light oil this weekend and see if that improves things.
    I'm using Eley subsonic hollows.
From what I've seen subsonics are meant to be okay for the Rossi, though I have some high velocity rounds as well that I could try . . .

try some supersonic rounds, subsonic may not have the inertia required to eject and reload.
then its a case of modifying spring pressure etc

I had a Rossi 22 mag that was light striking the primer. Is it failing to eject? failing to load? I'm not sure their quality control is exactly excellent.

Contact the council or doc offices. I know some of the council loan traps to people.

    Get a rabbit distress caller.

Get one person to do it in a clear area like a paddock maybe 20m away from the person with the gun. Then shoot it a couple of times for good measure.
