Dunno how to change it, but I'm guessing you've got it set to RAW format. Takes up heaps of space, but is the ideal pure image format.

There's also a little lock tab on SD cards. Have a close look

    Mac or Windows?
There are plenty of video tutorials, use the disk utility for Mac, I can't remember how on a PC.

8GB card should take hundreds, if not thousands of photos.. Changing the quality/size has only affected how many pictures you can fit in what little space there is left, not solved the issue - something else is filling up that memory card.

Few things to look at -

Some cameras have a small amount of internal memory, so it could be failing to read the card and using that instead, try popping the card out and back in while it's powered off.

Look in the camera settings, in the menu somewhere, there should be an option to 'format card', as Moutere said. This will wipe everything on the card, including the files I suspect are there that the camera can't see. - Best option I think.

Otherwise, plug it into the computer, navigate to the card, and delete any files off the card (and only the card!). Followed by emptying your recycle bin before you disconnect it..

Ive done the delete files on card & even checked on two computers , the both say its empty . Bugger thought it was sorted . Ok I've found the" format"and your correct 7.3 gb used .
