    6.5-284 Muzzle brake comparision

I did some load development on a Rem 700, when it showed up it had a brake I hadn't tested yet so took the opportunity, after asking the owner

Here are the brakes I compared

Prototype T1 Terminator, new style radial, T2 Terminator.

Here is a video of it shooting 140 Amaxs at around 2900.

There was very little difference in recoil reduction between the T1 & radial, but the T2 is ahead even though the through hole is for .284, not .264.

When myself & another Forum member shot them for comparison, that was both of our thoughts.

Including the opinion that the Radial wasn't particularly pleasant to shoot compared to the ported T1 & 2

Considering the T2 Terminator has over twice the port face area it isn't supprising it performed better.

That radial seems bloody effective for a non directional brake.

There isn't much in it on the rig but on the end of the rifle it is very noticable.

The T1 or T2 is much nicer to shoot with less recoil & without most of the crap floating around after the shot from the blast....

I haven't noticed to much yet.
The first ports will stay pretty clean, the last port may get a little carboned up.
My APS PK brake on my 1st Edge would do that after heaps of shots.
    It depends on calibre.
A hot ultrasonic cleaner gets them sparkling clean again.

Yes it does work well for a radial, but it was only on a 6.5-284 with 140s going 2875 ish.

Would be interesting to test a bigger one, on a bigger rifle.

Still blows crap everywhere with noticable concussion, as a radial does.......

are you testing it for comparrison's?. I think back to the breaks on the styer which were needed only on auto really even being a 5.56mm and they were a split type radial the only time i noticed it was sending shit every were was in close country or at night time with muzzel flash.

Not sure on the brake you are talking about but a .223 only has 22-26 ish grains of powder, hardly enough to blow your nose compared to 50-80-100 grains

If you have shot prone in the feild a radial braked rifle, you will know what I'm on about

Yeah I would agree I dont think the radial would be as effective on a large volume case. I guess its not so much the radial being not as effective as the directionals excelling with plenty of gas to direct rearward.

A slit type flash supressor which is a type of break isnt it? Why they have em i dont know R93 might be able to elaborate more on it being a ex grunt we never worried to much as it was something more to clean on the rifle!!.

It's worth noting that the owner of that 284 with the radial has tried the same rifle with the T2 on it, and reckons the T2 is way nicer to use. Nicer to the point he's buying it ! !
Anyone want to buy a little used radial

Yup that radial was great for lack of rifle movement....

but any brake that has ports pointing to the ground sucks... shit in the face is not nice while trying to watch where the animal is going...or trying to spot your shot

how do the breaks compare to using unbraked i mean its only 6.5mm why bother the amount of recoil would easly suppressed with a limbsaver and you dont ring your bell. i have a brake that come with my 243 absolute waste of time no difference in felt recoil
