Degustation menu (aka not the ultimate man sandwich)

So the missus and I like to go out for dinner each month on our anniversary day.

Couple of months ago I scored one of these TreatMe deals for half price.

We're off to enjoy a 8 course tasting menu tonight. Will report back in about 4 hours if I am still able to move

Does he cook at home... for his flatmates? If so, can I be a honorary flatmate for lunch sometime...

Shed 5, Monsoon Poon and Logan Brown... my fav Wellington restaurants. Pricey but good food.

We also live with our good mates and yes, he does cook for us sometimes. 'A snack' the other day included fried egg, roast chicken and a bloody steak. And some salady stuff. Anyway it looked and tasted amazing. He's brought the standard of cooking up in our house, he's an awesome teacher

    K, that was farking AWESOME

Muse on Allen. The two chefs are ex Matterhorn (been there, brilliant, especially the pork) and White House.

Definitely in the top 3 NZ restaurants on my list (Riverstone Cafe, Timaru; Matterhorn, Welly & Muse, Welly)

    The menu:
    • Freshly shucked market oyster, served with ponzu dressing
    • Slow-cooked pork belly, green pea and broad bean ragout, cinnamon, Riesling apples
    • Sashimi grade tuna, with ginger caramel, grapefruit, crackling
    • Refresher
    • Roasted lamb rump, gnocchi, goats’ cheese, bacon & mushroom jus
    • Sous-vide black Angus beef fillet, cashew puree, duck liver mousse, sautéed mushrooms (served medium-rare) matched with a 2010 Charles Wiffen merlot from Marlborough
    • Glazed pineapple, white chocolate snow, passion fruit gel & passion curd
    • Caffe l'affare coffee and petit fours

The tuna was ridiculous (they had little blocks of soy jelly and salty pickled cucumber slices), and the beef dish taste was fantastic.

A lot of it is on the main menu, and the prices were pretty reasonable for top-end dining. Around $15 for starters and average $ 25 - 30 for mains.

The dishes seem a bit more simplistic compared to Matterhorn, but when it comes to good food I am a fan of less is more...

Degustation deal was $ 70 a head, very good value...

Worth a return visit, happy customer
