    Preserving meat old school

This popped up in youtube today.

Reminds me of how mum preserved fruit back when I was still at school.

Bol Tackshin, Jhon and Mrs Beeman like this.
Hunt safe, look after the bush & plug more pests. The greatest invention in the history of man is beer.

A bit more bang is better.

I learnt preserving at a young age with my Mum - standing in the hot kitchen in the middle of summer while Dad kept bringing in the fruit but there is nothing better than pulling out a jar of peaches in the winter knowing where it came from. I try to teach the grandies but they haven't got the patience. I've never tried meat though, I'd be scared to muck it up.

Bottling golden queens. Will never forget it. Mum used to buy them by the 80lb case at the mart. Circa 1955.
And Christmas puddings hanging draining off a broom handle over the wooden kauri tub.
And the sound of the pressure cooker letting off steam just prior to dinner - probably another piece of corned beef.
And a bath and into our PJ's on a Sunday night and then in front of the fire for a hot drink before bed.
    Sigh...
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

always found corned beef best done in the slow cooker
as for bottling fruit, not in this household. wife buys it and eventually feeds it to the animals at her mates farm as she never finishes what she buys and i avoid it like the plague

Jeez I would give that a go. Eating it that is.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
