Very good results so far using box Hornady match ammo and IMO massively under rated Burris signature 5-25 scope. (seriously, give them a go, i went from vx5hd to this) Lab radar showed ES of only 11 FPS, aside from the cost there's almost no point in handloading when factory ammo is this high quality.

Nice set up but you need to reload to get any advantage of having a PRC as those speeds are super slow.
SD of my reloads are usually between 3 -9

fully understand but this is purely a hunting rifle and i have a self imposed limit of 500m maximum so plenty of speed for application. Out of interest how much speed would you expect i pick up out of a 20" barrel with handloads? Cheers

I would be wanting 2950 to 3000 as I just loaded and tested my 19" Creedmoor with a new batch of RL 26 and 143 ELDX and was surprised they were doing 2870fps.
No I know people will say that's way over pressure but I'm using sr Laupa brass and no pressure signs.

    Greetings,
You would loose around 100 fps or a little more from factory velocities with a 20 inch barrel. As far as making up the difference by handloading the PRC is already loaded pretty hot so I would not expect to beat 2,800 fps by much within standard pressures. Many load well above these pressures at the expense of the margins of safety built into the data in my opinion.
    Regards Grandpamac.

Just because you see no signs on brass, some brass is hard and some is soft depending on manufacturer, doesn’t mean you are under pressure. There is no free speed. The guys who figure out the max pressures for each cartridge, don’t have lawyers looking over their shoulders. They just document what they find. To be honest, with what that rifle is doing with box ammo, the amount of shooting the poster does being a family man, there is little advantage to start out handloading for it. Atleast until the box ammo he is using changes powders or batches of projectiles etc and accuracy changes

I am no expert handloader but I have at times had mates run loads on quickload for me. What has been really revealing is that compressed loads of very slow powders like RL33 can give very high velocities and low pressure. I imagine that this is because of a low but sustained burn right up the barrel, but whatever the reason it is 'a thing'. This is using powders that are not recommended for the given cartridge because they are too slow

Compare factory to factory tho and the creeds gunna be doing like 2600 if your lucky. Push it hard and you're close to 3k.

Id rather have practical useable velocity node for the intended purpose below max pressure. Longer case life, longer barrel life, and a bit of pressure contingency for other variables

Not to mention the box ammo from Hornady is such high quality now that for hunting application or people that shoot less than 20 rounds a year it is more than consistent/powerful enough.

Yeah I've tried 2 types of factory out of my prc both shoots 1/2 to 3/4 moa going 2850ish. Plenty for what I will use it for
