Leather Knife Shealth - needs repair

I have my late fathers Sheffield knife and leather shealth. The shealth as pictured needs repair with the belt holder. Looks like orignally held on by a small brass rivet? The old man was using in the late 1950's and i was mucking around with it in the 70's then it was stored away until located again recently. Anyone in Canterbury able to restore the belt holder bit that would still old the original character for its age? Checked online but the ones i found seem to be dealing with modern stuff, not restoration, but you never know?? Anyone point me in the right direction?

I get about ten search results for "shoe repair, Christchurch". If they can do shoes they will have the skills to do sheaths. Tell them your sentimental story and I'm pretty sure they'll be hooked on doing a good job for you. Sure you have some brogues to also bring along for a resole ... (-:

Think you'll find that belt loop is retained by a copper rivet, not brass.I've got plenty here of various diameters you can have if it helps

thanks for that. I also think the bigger issue is being able to make the loop complete with the tiny buckle intact from a new piece of fine leather - doable but not my skill set or maybe is? Work in progress - have some other sources to check.

Any saddler or leather worker worth his salt should be able to repair that no problem .

Waiting for a custom repair fella in Timaru to get back to me. In keeping with the original nature of the sheath - will require unstitching to re insert the copper/brass rivets x 2 and re stitch. Remember the leather is 65 yrs old. i have used leather conditor on it to help revitise it in the meantime. Trusting any boot repair type fella nah - just reading about resoling on this forum history and others tells a story about workmanship from some dealers! What we need in NZ are repairs like that UK programme that features on NZ Air that deal with custom stuff - toys , clocks, chairs etc - not cheap i expect but quality. Same as a few places in the US. Also use to be on NZ TV just a couple of yrs ago. They rebuilt classic motor bikes, pin ball machines, ejection seats for ex pilots, and such. That was workmanship. NZ i guess is too small a market for such full time work to the same standard?? Don't know.

Phone a good racing stable and ask which saddler they take their harness to for repair
