From my experience, the run you get out of them really depends on several factors - the rigidity of the mounting systems (if you see the light shuddering or vibrating while you are driving there's movement or shaking and the light won't like this over time), the quality of the power feed (most supplied looms are made from cable that isn't heavy enough and you really need to upsize the cables to decent stuff to get good amount of power through), and the last one is that you need to get a light with a robust front screen/lens on it as a few hits can disturb the sealing and once they leak it's usually all over, rover. Rust or paint peel from ali corrosion on the housings is usually a cosmetic thing but disturbing the seal at the front allows water to get driven in and once you get a bit of fuzz on the connections in the back even if everything else is well sealed you will have issues...
Gonetropo is right with the colour temperature too, it's the same as house lighting - communal and recreation spaces the recommendation is the warm white, working areas are cool white and they don't recommend anything higher (or bluer) because it can cause eye fatigue and headaches...
