Thread: Act submission points

Yep the fal should pretty much be like your driving licence, you can drive anything from a Corolla to a hummer or a Ferrari. If You don’t respect the law you get penalised. And then you have endorsements for a few different categories of vehicles a bit like we do for guns.

The Bottom Line is there are simply not enough Submissions. Which shows yet again NZ Firearms Owners/Users are their own worst enemies.

There are only 240 something thousand licence holders in NZ, and a lot of them won't even be aware it's ongoing. I haven't seen anything about this in the general media, compared to the Waitangi stuff for one example. Combine that with people who believe it's a waste of time and that the govt workers who deal with this stuff are so corrupted the effort is useless anyway, you can forgive people for thinking that engagement is a waste of their time. But if you don't have your say, don't bitch about it is a good working theory.

Also, a lot of people are part of organisations and are leaving them to do the submission on their behalf. A lot of other things that are in the media at the moment don't have organisation involvement, and it seems that it's motivated a lot of people to submit for those.

Another thing that seems a lot harder with this round is that the submission is quite formatted by the questions asked, and I almost feel that some of the questions are set up to guide you to the answer they want to get. I haven't seen anything quite like this before, not that good I reckon.

this country is also a democracy and as such each has the freedom of choice. some of you appear to teeter on the verge of insisting this is almost compulsory otherwise one is shunned or deemed weak etc etc .think a little before you rush into putting finger to keyboard .my response is my bloody business not anyone elses,apart from which I can state ive made my case abundantly clear .

Done! Took a few hours but it was a good way to spend a rainy day.

Thanks for your bullet points gimp! While working my way through the submission I had gimp's guide open in a second window and COLFO's guide open in a third.
It helped to formulate my responses and hopefully not leave out any important points.

C'mon guys, this is our best opportunity to have our say and get Nicole's new Arms Act written in our favour. Even if you just answer the questions you feel strongly about!

I don't really like sitting at the computer doing this kind of stuff (prefer to be out in the bush)... but I'm pleased I got to have my say.

Well finally managed to complete my submission. First attempt didn't save, and second attempt took some recovery due too a power cut. But all done now.

I disliked the repeated reference to the licence being a privilege, and mentioned that when brought up. I also wanted them to recognise that the past failures were not the result of licence holders, but rather failure of implementation of fit and proper.

Also, one thing OI forgot to mention is that the way one of the preambles too a question is written. It appears to say that you need a dealers licence too lend firearms.

Finally got mine done & sent today.

I did the same over 2 evenings with both gimp's and Colfo's guides open. It's not a quick and easy process. I echo someone's comments above - apart I think the vast majority of firearms owners will have no idea this is going on. I know extended family members who don't do social media. If I hadn't asked them and told them where and how they would be none the wiser. Not everone uses facebook.

I dislike that term as well. I'm not a legal expert, but I suspect it's a legal term to clearly distinguish it from a "right". We get given the privilege of possessing and using firearms legally if we are granted a licence...

As well as arguing for P endorsement for sports use I believe there should be an option to apply for it on medical grounds but subject to some restrictions. People with recoil sensitivity, lack of dexterity, lack of upper body functionality due to injury/loss of limb should be allowed to hunt with Prohibited firearms. The license wouldn’t include P magazine endorsement so restricted to 10 rounds. They would need a medical certificate similar to the ones in Australia that allow medical endorsement for using semi auto shotguns for clay shooting.

Thoughts on something like this?

In all honesty, I think that it would have been very useful for me with the injury I experienced and the issues with not getting it treated/diagnosed in a timely manner over the c-time and the Waikato DHB hack (probably means they have missed the chance to sort it out TBH, not sure what the result of that will be). I've only just been able to return to centerfire rifle shooting, and that's with braked/suppressed only. I would not like to experience something in the african style at the moment that's for sure, so having something that uses part of the energy to operate it's action and recoiling less harshly from it would be useful.

Working through the sub now, I think I'll add that in.

thats a great way to explain it wish i thought of that before i put mine in

So the Clubs and Ranges bill has passed it's second reading and will soon be law. It will be interesting to see what is in the regulations and if any changes are made to the range shooting manual.
