That's the Cliff's Notes version - but in reality I think the social engineering aspect and the mindset of firearms vs weapons becomes quite apparent in the analysis of what he's said in the past.

The unfortunate bit is that it's also quite apparent that his viewpoint is unworkable and not realistic - and if you use the pest control as an example even putting a bounty on feral animals you still can't get access to the core reservoir of the populations to make a realistic go of controlling the animal numbers. What a bounty will do, on the other hand is create a 'farming' opportunity for people who will then go out and try to 'control' areas probably using nefarious means so they have an income stream from the bounty payments. Not practical or ideal in the firearms regulatory space - so for me while Cahill was doing his job he was unfortunately quite out of touch with the reality on the ground.

We used to get those in school - the course material and learnings over the year summarised in one easy to study volume. Worked well, until the pollies got involved and changed the syllabus every other month. Now it's a turn of phrase used to describe the shortened version of something - the tiktok reel if you will.

Nah - the used pomgolian immigrant population of washed up has-been UK cops is riddled with these crappy ideas that didn't work in England. In reality the Police staffer mindset can be described as 'indoctrinated' - and the realities and subtilties of the real world don't factor into the organisation's brainwashing and staff propaganda. I had one of them tell me at a social gathering (and he was being deadly serious when he said this) that the best cops have the mindset that all humans are criminals - it's just that some haven't been caught yet. That really sums up the bullshit attitude that some of them have in one sentence.

Can’t recall ever seeing those in my school years, ‘60’s-‘80’s.

That's an interesting viewpoint. In my limited interactions working along side ex Police they seemed to be a lot more criminal than citizen. Its like they were smart enough to join the Government gang. Very clued up on where the line was and just how close you could get without actually crossing it.

Well, I'm not too sure about that regarding where the line is and how close you can get without actually crossing it. Seems there's an element that just doesn't care in most Govt entities nowadays. I'm doing this, and you'll like it...

I can't remember where I've read, heard or seen it, but there are studies that have shown the mental processes for criminals and coppers are surprisingly similar. It literally takes one to know one.
It would also suggest why even the bastions of our protection also fall off the wagon so to speak. They are nearly there to start with

I suspect a lot of it is because they deal with so much of the sh_t every day it becomes routine and slowly 'normalises " it to the extent that it changes boundaires of what is acceptable and not..... I know a guy who got a job with a plumber, when he started we all laughed cos he used to gag at the sight of a full nappy....but after a few months it was like that brown was just another form of mud and he couldn't even smell it....

Or as my wife reads over my shoulder with another example....When you take a long seat at your throne and while you are aware it has a smell, when you leave and she who must be obeyed starts choking on the toxic gasses that have followed you into the next room....

more than 20 years ago a local police sergeant told me that there were two types of people who joined the police - those who genuinely wanted to help society , and an increasing large percentage who were basically criminals wanting a uniform to hide behind.

I dont see many changes today , except of the diversity and inclusiveness thing
