Going to be sitting the safety course this coming weekend. Just wondering what sort of questions I should expect in the theory test? Has anyone done this recently? I have memorised the 7 basic rules and have read the arms code. I intend to study the arms code in further detail throughout this week. I have also completed the 3 practise quiz modules on the NZ Police site which I managed to pass easily enough.

It's only been 36 years since I did it, but I expect it's still the same - it's all about safe handling of firearms - keep that in mind when answering (and the 7 rules) and you will be fine.

The one I posted is different to the 3 you’re talking about. These modules give info then have a test based on it. I found it more informative than the arms code which has a couple of things incorrect like 15 round semi auto .22 etc.Quote:

If some of the questions can be interpreted 2 ways, always go for the best safety option.

I selected the first, it was a clear cut animal welfare vs dickheads point. But "wrong". As this was a SAFETY exam the second option was the "right" answer. Duh.

For the life of me I can't remember which question, but when I sat mine I got a question wrong which I queried and was told yes I was wrong. So I then got out the arms code and showed the instructor that I had actually got it right and their cheat sheet of answers was wrong.
When I did my test about a decade back, only one question stumped me and it was about which rounds of ammo fit into a handgun or something along those lines. Not really much to do with safety, but at the end the examiner talked me through that question (which was the one question i got wrong) and everything was good to go.
Its ironic but i reckon they leave an incorrect one in there. It could be a chance to peek behind a persons carefully hidden rage if they cant handle a minor thing like that...should they be trusted with a rifle?
Failing that, i gotta say there are some subjective opinions posed as questions in there. Worshipping glow vis clothing when it can demonstratably cause fatalities in certain light conditions. Its no cure for itchy trigger fingers and egos.

Just take your time to make sure you understand what the question is asking. If unsure, I'm pretty sure you can ask the person running the course if your understanding of what the question is asking is correct... I'd use that opportunity if unsure (I didn't and got one wrong - rushing and mis-read the question).

Waaaay back when I did it, you could get a couple wrong and still pass, but you had to get all of the last 6 (I think) questions correct.
