yes BUT........ it looks like one....and that always has been and always will be a problem.....presented with that in high stress moment 99.99999% of people will believe its a revolver capable of killing them....pull it during a heist and you deserve to be shot dead..no question at all in my mind about that one..but also 100% agree with the gist of the article, the figures need to be facts...if a firearms incident is proven to be a fake gun,it no longer is a firearms incident.....as such, its no longer part of the firearms communities problem.
many soft air guns are very much lookalike.
there was a chap shot by police many years ago in a dimly lit hallway who turned out was holding a steel bar....might well have looked like barrel in conditions.... a hard call at anytime for copper to make.

I think this is about the police wanting to show results. The crystals in the bag could equally be something like fertilizer or fish tank gravel. Who's to know, now that it has been established that they stretch the truth?

There was a similar incident that MD may be referring to that occurred in Christchurch where a guy was shot early in the morning when he heard some noise at his front door so stepped in to the hallway to see what it was. He had been up early exercising and had a piece of exercise equipment in his hand - can’t remember what it was called but essentially two chrome plated tubes with a spring inside that you compressed.

Was a long time ago though - MD would have been in his early teens at most.

I note they reported Nik Greens whining about credibility damage and police shooting data not fitting the narrative even he knows the police managers credibility is piss weak now and the the data shows things have gotten way worse despite the increased regulation which is why it’s hard for them to wrap their closed little minds around it.

If you looked at the issue it heightens the police case to remove all firearms from the public including imitation firearms for the risk it poses to police doing their job to protect the public. It is very hard to take the scared cow off the pedestal.

If memory serves, the cop was a recruit or a newbie and the guy shot was holding a bullworker which looks like this
