I think it is debatable actually. Having crap in the gun just made it a bomb. If you're out hunting then you probably wont have your cleaning rod on hand, so will you now risk it or do the right thing and go back to the hut to clean it. Also a very dangerous risk IMO.

The only other way is having a half cock system mod but that voids your warranty (with tikkas and sako's at least).

What i reckon is to get everyone's attention, aim in a safe direction, remove the mag, cycle it a couple of times, eyeball the empty chamber and close the bolt, recheck the safe direction bit and dry fire it. In the Infantry that was the process we called 'clearing the weapon'. To be done when you pick up the rifle, if someone hands it to you, if you're crossing an obstacle like a fence etc. But if you're anywhere near people who didnt see you clear the weapon i s'pose its your own obligation to take the mag / bolt off for their sake

This is what I'm talking about. You can clear the fucker twenty times. But if I don't see it how do I know?

Bolt open and I do know. If it gets crap down the barrel you'd be mighty unlucky, especially if you buy a decent rifle with a good half open......

Kinda what toby said but also I've found it only takes a small knock to push a bolt forward and I've even completely chambered a round in by accidently knocking it. It's obviously still a very safe way to do things though.

Separate topic really but how do people hunt? If I'm bush hunting by myself I have a round chambered and the bolt down to the first stage, If I'm with someone or glassing/long range hunting I do what I mentioned earlier. Detachable mags are good for it. I just release the firing pin before I put the mag in the gun and I'm happy its safe for me

I know it is out of context but I wouldn't be the piss taker that I am if I didn't post a dumb arsed answer to that so here goes. "I have my eyes open and use a rifle"
Wirehunt and Dead is better like this.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

I had a shocker and mis timed it completely. The stags on my place have been going off for the last six weeks (and still are). I went bush for 6 days across Easter and never heard a peep. Went back in two weeks later and still it was silent. A mate at work has suggested I just go home and shoot one.

Tbf. Ozzy chicks are fine until they open their gobs.
I can't stand that nasally winey accent.

Na! I stand by what I said tbh Some kiwi accents are no better either. Why is it when Ozzy chicks are on a cell phone, every fucker has to hear the conversation?

Its a generation thing - the emo boys with justin beiber haircuts do that shit too. Its just as bad here though. What do the pretty kiwi girls do? Dunno, they're all on the gold coast trying to become hairdressors. Trust me, kiwis with thick accents sound just as annoying when you live over there. I know because mates in both countries give me shit about my mishmash dialect
