Nicholas Taylor updated "what to do" documents

So trawling the threads the other night I came across one that linked to a couple of useful documents written by Nicholas Taylor regarding what we MUST do v's what the police MIGHT want us to do during a visit to our home or at a roadside stop. The documents were released back in '22 so I dropped him a line to ask if they were still current or had been updated, he replied with updated versions and said that the older docs were no longer valid. Link below to my drive where you should be able to download, feel free to disseminate to all and sundry

Thanks for those. Quite a bit of detail in there I was unaware of.

When I read the originals, I was "oh really" and the date made me think there had probably been some changes. I've heard his name mentioned before and he would have to be NZ's leading expert on gun and license law in NZ. I've printed out a copy of each, one next to the door and one in the sunvisor of the ute. I think it "unlikely" that I'm going to have any issues or unannounced visits but knowing what IS lawful and what ISN'T is good upskilling imo. I'm not anti Police, they have a shitty job that I wouldn't want for any money but I'm also aware that SOME can overstep the mark if they think they can get away with it...as is seen in the news on a fairly, depressingly regular basis so having the knowledge to keep them in check is a necessity these days.

Its very unlikely that a general duties plod understands the law to the level outlined in the docunent, its quite complex. A big thing is to recognize this and not get provoked if they get frustrated, very much dependant on the individual officers and which side of bed they fell out of . . .

Or how to ensure the police follow the lawful process, which I have no issue complying with. If standing up for the rights we have makes me a dick, maybe look to yourself. Complying with an unlawful process is subjugation.

Absolutely, law by it's nature is very complex and if a police officer is not fully conversant with due process then to be fair thats a "them" problem. It's like any pursuit, ignorance of process isn't free license to do whatever the hell you like imo

It's their job to know the Laws they Enforce. The End. Ignorance Is No Excuse In The Eyes Of The Law.
