@cheeseclip in general terms, the easiest way to separate/detach would be to slide it off the edge of the door, then you only have to pull it off the tiny contact surface of the door edge. I would place the magnet near one of the dges of the door, to minimise how far you had to slide it/ minimise paint damage,
