Even on tm you only have to put your fal in if buying or asking a question. Not exactly sure why you need a fal to ask a question. Never been asked at a gun shop for fal when asking...

It's to prevent out of band deals. Basically stopping some gang lacky trying to contact the seller directly and offering a cash deal at what the seller wants or higher (thus bypassing the TM fal validation process).

All you need to do if you wanted to bypass that check is list a car or vehicle. My view on it is that like Elon Musk's setup - it's not to prevent outside site dealing it's to 'look' like they are doing something to prevent outside site deals. The same outfit got in the crap for leaning on someone to complete the sale of a firearm when the buyer couldn't provide the mail order form and to complete the transaction would have been a breach of Arms Act requirements. Seller got paid for the item straight away despite needing to get the S43a form and work out shipping costs, buyer refused to give bank details to get refunded and complained to Trademe when the seller would send without the correct form. Dodgy all around, and if the requirement to enter your firearms licence number worked this situation should never have happened. TM would not (or could not) supply the details entered on the site to actually bid.

This is how long it took to transfer one firearm, nothing fancy just a Tikka T3x 6.5crd.

Why do we have to call, why don’t they have a transfer function on the website.
Why the procedure is not automated in case of an online sale. They already have all the info when we get the mail order form approved. I had to give all the info available on the mail order form again over the phone.

I have been happy to comply but this is not serious…

Then I had to call to register a Tikka with a custom barrel (7mm Prc) as they only have factory rifle in the list. They registered it over the phone but it is not showing on MyFirearm website. When I asked why the operator said firearm registered over the phone don’t show on the website, you have to go to the Police station for them to print the list of your registered firearm to get full confirmation.

Then I had to call to register a Tikka with a custom barrel (7mm Prc) as they only have factory rifle in the list. They registered it over the phone but it is not showing on MyFirearm website. When I asked why the operator said firearm registered over the phone don’t show on the website, you have to go to the Police station for them to print the list of your registered firearm to get full confirmation.[/QUOTE]

It is possible online to register a rifle in non-factory calibre. I did it with my Tikka T3X barreled in .300 Blaser Mag. I had to obtain phone advice from the Register contact centre on how to do it as the procedure is not obvious or indicated when filling in the online forms to register. Then, when I finished registering my entire battery of firearms there is another section you can go to showing the detailed list of what's registered in your name. That should negate any need to visit the Police for confirmation. When I talked to the Registry contact center personnel all tried very much to be helpful but obviously they were not expertly versed in the registration procedures until I got one young lady who was a real whiz who helped me at lightning speed. She knew her stuff.

I'll have to go into the Register again to find out again. Will try again tonight and reply later.

I think I've got this right.
1). First, log in to your Registry account.
2). It should bring up this page with my submissions in blue text at top right. Click on that.

3). Then, this page should appear with "my firearms submitted forms" in black text at the top. Click on that. It opens the page showing at step 4

4). This page is the summary of your submitted registry entries which should separately list each individually registered firearm.
On the left are code numbers in blue text ( REG - ****** ). Click on the blue code and the page of your registered firearms, including details, should appear.

Why couldn't they make it simply by having boxes on their website that we fill/type out the firearms make, model, caliber, serial number etc

Because of the way databases work and each field needing to have the same data to smooth comparisons and speed searching and reporting functions. Unfortunately, in this case there are so many variations in this field with the information they are wanting to record there's going to be a massive amount of data generated in a very short timespace. Databases are most accurate when kept simple, to the point and without fluff being captured as well. In this case I suspect that the database is not fully complete and that there is a massive amount of work still going on in behind the scene to increase the level of functionality. Unfortunately that would increase the risk to the system as well...

Because that would be to easy. Government websites aren't allowed to be user friendly coz government....... If it worked right first time how are the consultants going to get rich?

Aparently built on SAP their consultants will get very rich.

The problems noted above are somewhat concerning to say the least.

No, it's more to do with the fact that free text fields will result in multiple variations of the same thing, full stops at the end, spaces etc, which pollute the database and make it difficult to get meta data and statistics
