Do it on the phone then ya don't need a real me account
As I said I tried the online thing what a dog
On the phone no drama at all, and as for those worried about weird calibres don't worry I've got more than most and it's not an issue.

No- they're a negative Nancy for whinging!
I already had a realme from dealing with IRD, wasn't aware that people were having issues with that side of it... I understand the annoyance if it was a pain setting up realme, dealing with Govt agencies is usually a nightmare.
For me and others I know who just called for the register had it super easy.

I understand the point you are making, but all this should have been ironed out prior to go live - or the entire thing paused to get it fixed. If you think of the sample size on here, vs the issues reported - it basically means that the entire dataset held in the database is compromised through poor accuracy. If you are calling them over the phone to get things corrected, correctly entered, or to correct transactions then it's not an online automated database and we are paying through the nose for a complete fraud in effect. As a taxpayer that also offends me deeply as what are we up to on this charade so far, probably north of a billion NZ $? Eventually the whole thing will come to a crashing stop if it's this rough and we are only in year two - that's the basic thing with databases as the bigger they are the more records are affected and the harder it is to fix the errors and glitches.
I'm not sure we're you here your information but from someone that's down it with some weird calibres it's definitely not the case.

I've heard directly from a few people now in my position, and they had to call up to complete the job over the phone. It still took them all multiple calls to sort it out in the end, and it is a ballache I just simply don't need.

For me (and everyone else I've talked to who has completed registration) the issue is that you find one or more firearms they will not accept. And it isn't weird stuff. Gecado Plinker single shot .22, there has to be thousands of them, I can't have them all. Then you call and yes they are great on the phone but you are left wondering if they got it right as my Gecado's were an automatic rifle for a few minutes there. So you try to look and see what they entered, but for some reason you cannot see your own firearms till you fill out a form and take it to the police station then wait a few days. That is not an IT based system. It is a manual system with some IT based aspects that, because of the holes, will become inaccurate.

Well that was a waste of time. Logged in, listed all Firearms as per their drop downs, signed/ticked all boxes and the stupid bloody thing wouldn't let me submit. Back over 5 times, nothing missed, still wouldn't let me submit. Gave up - walking away. Useless, if that's the best they can do they need a rocket for a $1 Billion+ system.

I didnt realize I had to validate my account till I read about it on here. I printed the form and took me and my licence to the local police station and presented it to the lass. All done, and a couple of days later, I'm all good.

However, the very real danger exists that people won't know they need to do this step, and they'll fall foul of the law.

Today's news had a story about a woman who had to appear in court for illegal fishing - all she did was cast her very young kid's line. The mum didn't have a licence but the kids both did. The F&G ranger could have sorted it with a warning, but went the whole 9 yards with both barrels - she now has a diversion against her name, where she never had so much as a speeding ticket. Just put yourself in her shoes, and you've missed a step in the registration process, and an overzealous detective picks up on it... just saying.

Yeah that's my fear about the whole thing. Happened to a mate recently where the young constable came in real hard, but was actually rather polite at the time of dropping them back in once the Firearms people had done what they needed to do and verified the complaint that caused it all was malicious.

The "very" is the relevant bit there...you can get a childs licence for free..if child is too young to hold rod and wind in fish...well they arent really the one fishing are they??? a family licence will cover them all.... a day licence will cover mum...she can do all the casting and help kids wind in fish no matter thier age they can have a rod each then, its a get around/work around buying a licence herself.... I see your point re an authority with an attitude...but often there is a reason for it

Often that reason is entirely unrelated to you though - you just happen to be the poor prick that wears the attitude download.

Not sure what you lot are all whinging about. I registered everything in January, have bought and sold three rifles since then and havn't had a problem, either online or on the phone. It's not fucking rocket science.

The good news is since you lot are all hunkering down and living like the guy in the Matrix and not doing anything hoping you can go on owning your firearms buried in your back yard or something, no one is ringing the Firearms Authority people, so you can get through straight away without going on hold, which is amazing for a government department.

As we keep saying mate, it probably works mint if you have basic factory items that fit the illiterati list that's been assembled by people that don't know about unusual things. For those that don't have these, the direct experience I hear is it can take multiple calls and a fair chunk of time to sort out just to get your records accurate. Being able to get through to the people answering the phones is nice and probably saves you a bit of time, but that particular ballache shouldn't exist to start with. It was billed as being simple, easy and quick - and what we've got isn't, even to the point of requiring you to create what could be a second or third Govt online identity for some people with the decision to require you to use Realme, followed by a trip to the local constabulary to get the manual form witnessed to be graciously allowed to access your own bloody records online to confirm whats not correct and then start the correction process over the phone again.

What's the quote from Yellowstone? "I don't have the energy for you today...".

If you don't need to smack yourself in the nuts with a club hammer, would you?
